A very sad story ...very sad. But perhaps those that knew very early, and who turned a blind eye to the bleeding obvious, those in power and control who didn't act, administrators, press, blind sycophants....leading the fans to trot out the line, as some still do, that he "never tested positive" might finally realise that they (and the individual) have contributed greatly to what is now a train wreck.

You can't imagine that Ben Cousin's will live a long life. Just the thought of an old Ben Cousin's sitting in a rocking chair on his porch, smoking a pipe, sorry, drinking ice tea, reminiscing about his football career, must be just a fantasy now.

I have a brother who is a junkie, and I keep telling people, even though he looks like my brother, my brother, as I remember him, died years ago. Drugs have consumed his soul.

I agree JJ that those who turned a blind eye have contributed to what he has become but like the Bali 9 there are decisions you make in life which you know will have serious ramifications given the nature of the subject at hand, be it crime or hard drugs.

When it is black and white, the morals at your core are tested and if you fail what should be a simple test, then be prepared to face the consequences. I have no compassion for those people.

Not into retribution as such but there were a lot of qualified people in both the playing and the Administrative group who reverted to the Sergeant Schulz defence of I know nothing when it was patently obvious and very much talked about on every street corner, that there was a car crash occurring over an extended period of time. Their credibility is forever tarnished as they chose "winning is everything" as opposed to moral fortitude.

Daniel Chick has cleaned up his life big time apparently, which he apparently credits to a very natural diet (chemical free) I have seen seen some of his facebook posts it appears he turned his life full circle  hopefully for his sake and the sake of his family he has.

No one forces you to take drugs, ultimately it's your own decision and your own responsibility, end of story.

Does surprise me how many young blokes these days find it acceptable to take any drugs they would then accuse me of drinking too much not sure what to make of it all would find it very scary if my kids ended up on them.

    Everyone knows that.

Those who dabble often underestimate the addiction and that is the problem.

With what is known about smoking, it is unbelievable that anyone would smoke but plenty still do.

Next time you talk to a smoker ask them why they can`t break the habit and then consider that some of the drugs today are 10 times more addictive than cigarettes.

Suggesting that it is all about an individuals responsibility may apply to the first few experiments but long term drug abuse is a curse that many individuals and their families can`t overcome.

So in other words you're a brain dead idiot for taking them in the first place. I have zero sympathy for druggies whatsoever, so much of society is a mess today both directly and indirectly because of them. Having watched one of my best friends having spent well over two years fighting off hopefully successfully, an extremely rare and invariably lethal sarcoma and then having watched her suffer again as one of her best friends ( a lovely bright intelligent girl)died last week at just 35 years of age from bowel cancer with their family having had no history of it, I reserve my sympathy for those who actually deserve it.

Don't be an ignorant a-hole Andrew.

It astounds me you quote a facebook page as a "source" of Daniel Chicks redemption and call yourself a journalist.

And never bring personal tragedies into a forum that is discussing "celebs". It's unbecoming.

Cousins is not a celebrity,  the term celebrity is so often misused and abused it carries zero meaning, cousins was a very good football player period but ask anyone who knew him when he was at school as he was the same even back then by all reports.
Mate as I've said previously this forum is a toilet and when it comes to my writing a story I can and will research topics properly but not for toilets and I qualified that when I repeatedly said  "apparently" but by all reports from who know him chick has cleaned up his act ( and his posts when you read them appear very since and logically thought out , Michael Gardiner eventually cleaned up his act once he got away from WA so it can be done but you have to want to.

Ironically, you mention toilets too much.

If "Cuz" isn't a celebrity in this town, then I don't know the meaning.

The point I was making "colon" is that I reserve my sympathy for people who actually deserve it not drug taking or drug dealing, drug smuggling morons.

I think you are a moron Andrew. No offence but you have absolutely no idea about most things you are talking about.

i'm guessing you listen to 6PR.

George Clooney is a celebrity, Cousins unfortunately has made a conscious decision to become a loser and all after he's been given more chances and opportunities ( not to mention numerous "second" chances) in his life than most people ever will. I actually know Ben a little bit from the trots, races and when I'm working at the Eagles and he was a likeable guy and I actually felt some sympathy for him initially but he had the opportunity post football to actually become a positive influence on impressionable kids and instead has continued down the same path of self destruction, all sympathy for him has long been exhausted.

No I don't listen to 6pr, you decided to insult me not the other way around and if you think I'm a moron judging by your attack on me then I know I'm on the right track.
  • colincolin    103 posts
    George who?

You continue to astound me with your holier than thou attitude.

I'm glad you thought Ben was a nice fellow. That makes me and possibly Ben feel a lot better.
