Well seeing as the primary concern re the whole matter seems to be re the Ascot trainers, I'm sure they will think it's money very well spent.

Haven't seen any response other than the concerns of the Ascot trainers. Are there others?

Fastmoney what do Ascot trainers pay to use the track? Lark Hill is $7 for the grass and $2 for the sand.

If it's actually open to use

Have been told it's something like $20 at Bunbury. Is that right?

think that's a nominal charge that all the clubs charge belmonts $7 , bunbury used to be $6 going back a few years so is prob $7 now days as well .very much doubt bunbury $20 maybe for a week if used 3 times

Interesting that Colin Barnett was reported as saying in Parliament yesterday that PR couldn't sell Ascot because it wasn't theirs to sell.

Again you gotta know what you talking about

Track usage fees as of 1 August 2013 will be

Jog Track/ Sand Usage $1.50 per horse
Grass Track Usage $8.80 per horse
Jump Outs Track Work $1.50 per horse
Jump Outs Trial Days $22.00 per horse

    Please Note
Payment of accounts are due within 30 days.

Access to the track will be denied for any trainer with an unpaid account.

Trainers must confirm with the Morning Track Work Manager, or BTC appointed representative, the number of horses that have used the grass and/or sand when leaving track work. Failure to do so will result in the BTC record being deemed to be correct and charges may not be disputed

anyone know if the profit from the sale of PR assets be used to top up prize money?

has this happened in the past?
  • RIORIO    14,902 posts
it has in the past wedge and it soaked it up very quickly..There is clear funding forecasts in place now that allow RWWA to contribute to the very large majority of Race funding (if not all of it) - as i feel they should.

So yes to the past and no to the future... PR's job is to get people to the races ...RWWA's is to reward the owners, trainers and jockeys for providing a betting medium.

Punters on the first floor will have a 3m x 2.5m screen to watch races from around Australia. A new audio system has been installed.
    Sweet, about time!

I just hope you can hear the mounting enclosure reports before EVERY race - what is the point of having Wes or someone else reporting on the condition/look of the horses if you can't hear them?
  • RIORIO    14,902 posts

Don't get too excited guys and girls. The members gets that full from day pass holders that the general members cant fit up there.. So the majority of that space on the first floor will/was or should be fenced off for members and functions...The plebs will be forced to go...somewhere else.

Don't forget the it is a race CLUB, and their first priority has to be for members.. Or should be!!!!

I've got a big screen at home RIO, so if the 'members' keep that attitude, they'll have the whole racetrack to themselves.

Sorry, wrong topic. I'm looking for the one where Perth Racing needs to to sell Ascot to stay afloat, or get more people to the track........

What about those that work in the industry everyday no matter what the weather to help put the show on?, are we just plebs for the members?. How about a discount on meals for the workers behind the scene. All good for members with there discounts and cheap feeds, what about the ground root workers?, never had a member bring me a burger and coke while I'm walking a hot horse to chill it before a race. Look after everyone except the stable hands that help put the show on. Not getting at you @rio, but it cost stable hands more than they make to go to races and strap horses. Why do they do it, love of there job and the horses they work with. How about 10% off burgers for stable workers that present there Rawwa ID?.

The first floor is the public level @RIO - not sure what you're on about!

The members floor is never full, but it does have poor aircon!  The first floor is the nicer space for sports and punting and the aircon works in there!

Wrong LLS...The first floor had sections of it endorsed as members areas last year due to lack of space up stairs. It will happen again this year.. Long list of members who had to go down stairs last year week after week.. I'm one of them..6 visits on non event days and not one time did I get a seat up there. Was advised that the first floor would get upgraded features this year due to so many members being on that level rather than up stairs.

Right it is designated Public Floor...but is and always should be made more comfortable for members. If the public want nice facilities pay up for them or pi55 off.. As a member I want to make sure I am looked after a long time before some whinging, non-contributing, free loading sponge from the public deck is.

I may be having a really bad day and will probably come back on and apologize for venting.. But doubt it.. If you want better facilities put your hand in your pocket and pay for them

I'm always amazed how a sling to a trainer to look after everyone travels such a short distance.. Normally from his hand to his pocket.. Next time I'm giving out a sling - which I do on every win - i'll give it to the strapper to distribute to everyone as they see fit.. Bet the poor buggers still end up with nothing, cos they are so honest they'd give it all to their boss immediately anyway!!!! :D ;)

How about rawwa or pr cover the cost so strappers get half priced burgers, a trainer is nothing without there staff. Fancy new floors in stands, new training track and nothing for the behind the scene workers. Oh sorry we are PLEBS who should be lucky to do what we do. Geez imagine if stable hands had a union???. Enjoy your new grandstand Rio, but how about going to the tie ups and feeding those looking after your horse. Maybe go around the members with a collection box to feed those that help put the show on for F all of a wage.

I agree, L, stablehands should have a voucher for a burger and a soft drink. its a long day, especially for a busy stable.

that's all good rio good to see you put your hand in tour kick after a win but what about the other strappers in the race there can only be one winner and all owners not as generous as your good self I thought jal idea was a pretty good one

Yeah I hear you Gary, but if the drain of members continue and they don't raise the 2-3mil that they raise from our memberships every year which guarantees them a catering crowd of at least 800/week, how do you think the public will be treated then???

It is a club run facility.. It has to address members first. If it doesn't then there wont be a members area and we will all get the exact same facilities based on ......??????????????? how many showing up each week.

At least when I sit at home and watch the races I can see them on a screen, I'm sitting in a comfy chair and I can bet with however I want at a tap on a keyboard.. And if that is what people want a club will never provide it, and will go broke trying to attract them back.. Gone for ever is that audience. Members are too busy being seen and the public like it down near the action of the ring and the track.. At Ascot they get neither!!! haha that's why Belmont is a better facility. The parade ring and the bar all right there on the finish line.. and not one snotty nosed member insight..

So upstairs in the aircon at Ascot should all be for the members and if you want to enjoy that facility.. Pay up.

  • LuckyLongshotsLuckyLongshots    4,270 posts
@RIO - if you're talking about table space, that's fine.  I'm talking about the area designated 'sports bar' which is a standing area anyway!

I have access to the members area when I want it, but the conditions on the members floor are fairly poor - the vision is horrible, the sound is horrible, the aircon does not work when the place is full et al.....
  • JustanLJustanL    356 posts
Not sure if any one from PR or RAWWA read this site but if they do, please try and do something to help our days better. A lot of workers get nothing to go to races and use there own money for a meal. Could you live on stablehand wages?. Seems all the money is going to those that turn up every now and again for cheap feeds and drinks. 90%% of stable hands would not know where the members stand is, all they know is the tie up area and birdcage. They are the ones that work everyday to help pay your wage. Time to give back.
