So between the two races there was a 38 point drop in ratings. In fact at 100.56, this years race only just crested the 100 rating barrier that surely must be a minimum standard for a Group 1 Race ?

tete-you seem to have agenda to just bag watc and now that movd to the group races.problem is you dont have level of knowldge you thnk you do. Relative newcomer to indstry id say.races are not assesed on hcp rtgs you keep raising.international perform rtgs are used that are quite diff.didn't you ntice scenic blast in paper at int rtg 122 for win in newmrket and england but on rvl website hcp rtg after newmrket just 116.leave it to carey who does his homework or ask someone else who knows

Holy crap.............. 11 points for coming third.

Would suggest Snipers is pretty much finished then too, at 116 (bar WFA)
  • TiversTivers    7,720 posts
Also post race ratings count for a lot, hence CC was dragging the average down, but now being rated at 95 makes up a big chunk of that 36 points (or whatever it was)
  • TiversTivers    7,720 posts
Interesting to note that all first 8 placegetters are 100+ raters bar CC, which you would assume will be by seasons end (also a factor to be calculated for race grading).

Only 4 starters out of 16 are rated below 100, and probably only 2 of those won't be 100+ by seasons end (or by end of 2009 even !)

One, or three races too late though, and cant understand how he justifies doing it NOW but couldn't THEN.
It detracts from his credibility and knowledge of what he is supposed to understand.

That rating(SB) won't necessarily transfer to East although it may do, but even then it probably won't hurt much because it would likely be racing against horses with higher ratings.

Megatic the big winner (ratings wise) - dropped 2

AS far as future grading of WA races is concerned the pattern committee at their last meeting earlier this year have only 1 WA race with a caution maeaning that a downgrade would be considered next year if nothing improves.

That race is the Kalgoorlie Cup

Far worse listed races going around than the Kal Cup, Corporate Sam's for example
  • HenleyBrookHenleyBrook    408 posts
Downgrading the Kalgoorlie Cup is far from the answer!!!!

Isn't that the mark they have Marasco on ?

    Exactly - buggered ;)

Not like SB was winning races otherwise though, so would think be pretty happy to collect $670k, plus whatever can garnish from the KT, and wander off merrily.

He ran a really good race last year over 1800M, with luck in running he may just snag this one as well. The horse is getting on a bit, so maybe they might retire him after this Summer.

Agree, of all the e/s raiders, this is the horse/trainer combination who certainly deserve a good ending!

The claim this morning that the Railway Stakes is now Australia's greatest mile race is surely an overstatement. Just because the race is run for $1M does not make it the greatest race. The field this year wasn't even as strong as last year.

To rank it above the Epsom is a stretch beyond anything I have heard in recent years.
