Only 2 points higher now to prior

Big story is Lambton Castle - 88 points and didn't get a run (balloted out)

The big question is, if Lambton Castle was the 16th horse on acceptances, would he have been declined a run by the handicapper ???

Hasn't been the luckiest horse for nominations, I remember he got booted out of a Fruit N Veg early on in the piece by stewards discretion

He was the 16th horse on acceptances !

Big call...........Stakes winner who ran a very unlucky 3rd in Northam Cup over same distance last start.

That is absolute garbage Lambton Castle being left out and Colour Correct going in with an 84 rating!!!!! I was told that Kasabian had no chance of getting in unless he wins one of the exempt races or gets his rating above 96. He started the campaign on 82 so put in one decent run and technically he would have got in anyway. If i was the owners of Lambton Castle i would be pissed big time!!!!!!!!!

Think it's strange they can elevate Colour Correct into the field when as someone said they didn't do it to Marasco a few years back when he would have started favourite
  • TheDivaTheDiva    13,248 posts
    Yes I overlooked Colour Correct.

If you believe the preamble from the Handicapper, both horses should be out. They wanted a minimum rated horse of 97 this year.

I think all the hype in promotion became the basis of a lot of the information regarding this race. I thought it was fairly predictable that this would happen. I hope for the continued success of this race that it the years ahead it can attract a higher qualified field.

Just checked the Order of Entry and Colour Correct has been lucky to obtain a start from 48th position which was followed by a close 2nd in the RJ Peters. However Lambton Castle also had a credible performance in the XXXX Gold Northam Cup in 3rd after running 5th in the Northerly to Megatic, but was ranked in 42nd place, well above Colour Correct.

The Owners of Lambton Castle I think are justified in asking the question ........ why ?

Barred from a Fruit N Veg and now a Railway, owners have had a good run..

If it was put in before Lambton Castle then they think it has a better chance than LC does.
What it does demonstrate is how poor your handicappers are in WA.
Colour Correct was 2nd in a G3 beaten bugger all by a 95 rater and yet it's rating went from 81 to only 84. the winner went from 95 to 101.
So by letting it off scott free for nearly winning that race they should have no place putting it in front of LC which is an 88 rater unless they rated it higher than LC, which of course they should have.
If they did their job and gave it what it should have got, then yes it deserves its place in front of LC, but by not doing their job, then it should have no right to be above LC.

Luckily they don't have performance ratings done on handicappers, or your blokes would be looking for new jobs.

Lambton Caste you have got to be joking. If I was the owner Id be extremely happy my horse was on the same page as these runners. He is nothing more than a good horse on his day. Colour Correct should have won last week, and thankfully the handicapper has seen that this horse is alot better off in the 1600m railway than Lambton Castle.

agree on colour correct carey.ran to rtg much highr on sat so gets run.hdcpers there limtd by directive id say.horses never penalisd running place out of hcp.good for owners-maybe too many on commitee at rwwa

Both horses are lucky to be in the field & first emergency. They are hardly Group 1, and are only in consideration because of poor numbers from the East this year.

I think you could have got the same field with only a $500,000 purse, and you would not have been the cheapest Group 1 in the Country.

$1M for this is just throwing it away.

Im with STATIC CC was a moral beaten Saturday so he should be in and if he draws well he is as much chance as any of the locals im a huge rap for the horse but as ive always thought might be a year to soon wait until this time next year upto 1800+

"Tried hard" is not pre-qualifying exemption. Winning is. Connections are aware of that. Connections of Lambton Castle took a gamble not running in the RJ Peters knowing that the horse was rated high enough, and most probably would just scrape in and not need the 7 day back up. Now he is being vaulted over by lower performing horses according to the ratings and that is supposed to be OK ?

Let's make the Race an Invitational.

You are correct except for one thing.
The rating for CC is so far wrong as to be fantasy land.
They should not do what they did(include it above LC) unless they gave it the rating it deserved for that run on Saturday.
That they didn't means they know it's rating is absolute bullshit.
The handicappers are doing two things.
They are saying CC is only a 84 horse but at the same time saying it is better than an 88 horse.
That makes as much sense as.......well whatever.
It is also free to drop back to an 86 race and only get 58kg.
This is why they have that stupid handicappers discretion rubbish so they can have immunity when they do things that are worthy of prison sentences with hard labour!

    You're completely missing the point!!!
Super Impose can see it clearly, and it is very clear to see!!!

Can you let us know what you think of the Interstate horses Blake ? I don't follow closely enough except at the major carnival races.

Carey - are you suggesting a horse should get 7 or 8 points for running 2nd ???

I'd do my block if a horse of mine got 8 points for running 2nd.........
One of mine got 1 point for a 2nd last week (after 5 straight NFG's and not dropped a point).

YES, when it does it out of it's class, within it's rightful class it would never get 8 points in the first place.
They have taken the chance and nearly pulled it off. They have proven it's no longer an 81 horse but something much much higher.
Fair dinkum, I can't believe you are even asking the question.

Don't forget it was only just beaten in a listed by Megatic too, two starts previously.

I do now understand why it happens in WA, because it's a question you should not even have asked me!!

EDIT...it should actually have gone to 95 pts which is 14 points, as that is what it proved itself to be.
