Harness & Greyhounds
News flash, news flash.....National Secret Revealed.

After a lengthy spell, I decided to lash out a $1.70 and check out the Trots coverage in the West this morning. After all, we have a genuine champion returning to racing tonight.....$2.3 million and 61 wins from 92 starts, group 1 wins everywhere....by any measure, Chicago Bull is a superstar, astonishing numbers.  Drawn a bit wide tonight, 2550m first up. Bound to be some discussion/commentary on tactics and how the others might plot to beat him. In addition to that, arguably two of the best 3 year olds in the  country....Lavra Joe, Mighty Ronaldo clashing in a group 2. Is there a more exciting looking prospect than Lavra Joe? Plus Too Fast Too Serious returning......yep, for a late Autumn/early Winter program what more could you ask for? Bound to be at least something

Alas, nothing, not a word......the transfer of Bams On Fire and it's upcoming trial, a cut and paste on the charges against Kim Waugh and Serge Lisnyy and the return to work of Last Of The Line ( a horse that I can honestly say I have never heard of although I am not a close follower) and a cut and paste commentary on a race in Brisbane take precedence. The hide of this once revered local paper calling itself the West Australian is beyond words. I'd bet money that Ernie has been tapping away on his typewriter but it didn't catch the sporting editor's eye.....if there is still a Sports Editor.

No more rash spending from me. Yes, yes, yes, times have changed and electronic news via HRA and the continued good work of Ken Casellas and others, is how people access their news but many don't......Kerry's Kingdom keep trumpeting their ballooning readership numbers. But it seems almost a deliberate strategy to eliminate coverage of the industry until there is no industry at all, whilst racing for peanuts as it withers on the vine.

I get the West delivered Wednesday and Saturday - and i think Sat - you cant complain about the coverage of GP Trots - there is nearly in every Sat edition of the West - a lovely photo plus a good write  up - go to Syd Melb or Tassie and you wont get that

Had to laugh - last Wed edition  - Jay Rooney - there is no prize for guessing what the headline and story was - the Parnham bros - medical updates - comebacks - future mounts - he honestly must be related to them

are journalists still interviewing stables or is it just ours they seem to make up quotes from?

    Talking about journalists.

I had the pleasure of speaking to Robbie Dewar this week. Unfortunately Robbie is not in the best of health but he told me he used to have a harness racing show on a community radio channel in WA (not sure which one as I live in Victoria)

Over here we had a similar show on a community radio channel for 25 years and it was hosted by Len Baker and one of his weekly guests was Robbie who gave a WA Report. HRV stopped supporting the show and it ceased 12 months ago.

What frustrates me is these guys interviewed the grass roots participants. For example trainers or drivers who had their first winner, etc. Over here the publicity is all about the "big trainers".

I let Robbie know about the forum and I hope he joins with his wife Wendy as Guys like this really have that special love and passion for harness racing!!

Take care Robbie and hang in there mate
