It’s the exciting time of the year on the Pearl Coast, with Ladies’ Day on Tuesday and the Cup on Saturday. There is a certain bit of electricity in the air in town, and most businesses will be down to skeleton staff or shut on Tuesday afternoon.
The track has been heavily leader biased throughout the year, with most days seeing it impossible for back markers to make ground, so beware backing run on horses. Speed maps may give an insight as to who you should be following after the first couple of races.

    Race 1

Lots of early speed, with Feel the Force, The Bing, De Mews, Ameerah and Patriotic Cause all capable of leading. I am willing to give The Bing one last chance, but in saying that he has been a very costly horse to follow. Peter Hall should be able to position him just on the speed and present him at the right time. Blazing Dane was a very good run last start, settling back and running on behind The Pipe, who looks to be an above average Broome horse. Feel the Force has a positive riding change with Nathan Stanley doing the steering.

    Race 2

The maiden, or eliminator as they are at this time of the year, looks to be a tough affair to line up. Most of these have had plenty of chances already this year, and are still on their ducks. Manorama should lead, and if it does will be hard to run past. Demon Jane continually puts in good efforts, however it’s style of racing, getting back and running home, is not suited to the Broome track. Beware the fresh horse, Another City, as most of these will be tired. Would not be surprised if it won, or ran 30 lengths last. The majority of the maidens this year have finished where they have ended up on settling.

    Race 3

A fairly open event, will settle on a bit of value with the Angela Smith trained Brimarvi Magic. Another positive riding change with Colin Haddon going on, and has the luxury of a reasonable barrier draw. It’s last 3 runs have been very good without much luck against better opposition. Star Crest on the freshen up could be a chance, whilst Spirited Rocket was a good run last start as well. Revy was disappointing after dropping in class at his last outing, and has a poor record at the 1300m.

    Race 4

The main event of the day, The $25,000 Carbine Club/Mungrup Stud Classic for fillies and mares provides my best of the day. If Double Swirl is at the top of her game she just wins. She has been very impressive this season and no doubt this race was her main target all the way along. Her last start 2nd to Zip Code was franked when Zip Code blew them away in the open sprint last week. Well drawn, Nathan Stanley steering, she ticks all the boxes, just a matter of what price is available. This race has historically thrown up a few outsiders in the past couple of years, with Tommy Pike getting the cash last year with Mossgreen at $26,and Megapike saluting the year before at $33. Danzmait has been very impressive in winning her last 2, but has drawn the river, or ocean as the case is in Broome, and may find it tough from out there. If there is to be an upset, Infinity Lass and Neogene could be the blowout horses. However, anything better than $3 about Double Swirl will be good buying.

    Race 5

Tough race with a case to be made for all of them. Missy Moonshine was very good until her last run. Has been freshened up and if she is right will go very close. Seize Control form lines are a very good guide here. If Giles gets the distance this looks a very good race for him, however was unplaced at his only try this trip. I’m called Earl is 3 from 4 in the North West, however leading Port Hedland trainer Anne King doesn’t have a great record with her horses in Broome when she ventures further north.

    Race 6

Another tough race to finish on. Yoakam was fair last start, but it was his first run for a month and was stepping up to 1600m. Would think that the run would have improved the horse, so I am willing to part with my hard earned on him again. First Lot will be on pace, and the Broome style of racing means he has to be a big chance. Pelican Red was a nice effort last time out and also hyas to be considered. Peter Hall gets aboard Bohemian Paradise for his big drop in class, and Hally has a great record on the big days in Broome.
Ladies Day, the day when your quiet unassuming neighbour could be a grovelling mess by the time of the last race. Regardless of the results, no one can be a loser on Ladies Day, as the viewing is always exceptional. Champagne will be drunk, heels will be in hands by the last, and the majority of the ladies will be wishing they had worn flats. No doubt the ZeeBar / Divers double will feature strongly late into the evening.

Don't really play Broome but Yoakam will improve dramatically and win the last.

Not to sure if BC4E has been watching same Broome races I have but if you going to have a bet dont be worried where your horse is in running they have been winning from anywhere. Without going into stats I would think only about 50% of leaders have won this year which i dont think would be much different at ant other track grass or dirt.

If you rember rightly the stats last year were crazy with leader bias

so now lets see if i can get a winner

Have to agree on Double Swirl (WANT BE LEADING)

Yokam has to be good chance as well (WANT BE LEADING).

Demon Jane must be her turn (WANT BE LEADING)

    GOOD LUCK

    .

I have been informed that after the last meeting that the club received a rocket from the stewards regarding the track and the way it has been playing..... you just need to watch the replays to see how heavy it has been and how much dirt was getting kicked up.

Without getting too defensive of my previous comment, at the last meeting 5 of the 7 winners came from being right on speed, and the 2 that came from off speed both won in photos from the on speed runner. If you think that means they can win from anywhere, go for your life and back whatever you like..... you are only going to increase my dividend.

Howver, after being duly castigated regarding the track, expect it to play a bit fairer today.

Ive had two tips for The Bing....if that horse wins, I'll fall off my chair.

Looking elsewhere in the first. Perhaps Feel the Force for Nathan Stanley and Angela Smith.

Certainly the front runners went best there!

    results so far:

R1. Black Beast faced the breeze and won
R2. Affair Lies sat 3rd in the clear and won
    R3. Enriching led and won.
R4. Danzmait led all the way.

Anyone see the start of race 3? doubt there has ever been a shot like that before, huge cattle ship and tug boat in the background. Can anyone post a screen shot?

It was a big day out at the track yesterday, with the fillies in fine form.

Yoakam did me a favour in the last, settling behind the leader and holding out Hally on Bohemian Paradise. Apart from that it was a tough day at the office. Thank god there is no track bias in two up, and I managed to get in front thanks to a run of about 12 tails in a row.

Time to freshen up for Saturday, the reinforcements arrive on Friday, so I better start banking some sleep in preparation.
