Yes  it is richly deserved - one of the greats of Trotting and the gallops , and a gentleman as well

Drove in a very fair fashion , did not knock over opponents horses like some others did

WA Trotting is really at the crossroads , surely the ones in charge could entice FRK back in some role , and he is very forthright in his views and that is what WA Trotting desperately needs , some real leadership

Watched plenty of old replays on the public holiday , and he actually drove Manifold Bay ( trained in Vic ) in a big race at Moonee Valley - a Pacing Cup , or A G Hunter Cup or whatever

Marko Fred was on Trotting committee from 2005--2015.

Is that so - then i would just wish one of those Courageous WA Racing media people , like Ernie Manning , Mathew Young , Hayden King , would ask FRK one simple question

Fred , id like your opinion on RWWA spending $25 million on a GP redevelopment but retaining a 50 year out of date 800 metre track

Why wont one of those 3 ask the great man that question ?

As you said Damien well desrved , and not taking anything away from his accolade. But surely and not just becuase he has just passed but i would have thought Colin Websters some 45 years on the trainers association  would qualify him for the same award, if its for services to racing

I dont want to hijack the great FRK thread

However the WA Racing media ( compared to other states eg NSW , Ken Callendar had a racing column in the daily newspaper , and if he felt strongly on a topic he would say it and discuss it

But if  important - hard  crucial questions need to be asked re the Racing industry , then most of the WA  Racing Media , they are as cunning as Shiithouse Rats .

I don't think longevity is a prerequisite on it's own.

Fred Kersley has been across two codes in leading roles and in thoroughbreds he has looked after a genuine champion and legend of WA racing in Northerly. He has in later years been thrust into public debate in respect to the Industry when many many others just remained quiet. He has my complete respect for the role he has played.

It is for certain that he won't have a race named after him like some of the other players of little character and substance, such is the political nature of that happening.  This honour transcends Racing in a lot of respects into the wider public recognition and for that we should be grateful that he has again represented the code with dignity as he has in the past.

Pray tell Dear Marko, the questions do get asked, the articles and stories do get written, I have seen forward proofs on a regular basis......but sports editors at media organisations, print and visual, are under strict control from Editors and in all likelihood, the Editors are foot soldiers for the Owners. They toe the line.

Guarantee a race fall/smash or a jockey/driver injury (or using speedway as an example, a major accident) and it will lead the news report. That is what newspapers have morphed into.....ambulance chasing tabloid slop. The finer detail of a power struggle down bythe Palms is of lzero interest or consequence. Staff numbers in sports departments have declined. Our football "writers" (generous description and apologies to Geoff Christian et al) have morphed into fanboy acolytes of the latest media super star and would be more suited to New Idea. People have tried and gotten nowhere.
