    Never boring at Portrush.

    He's just too good.

He parred the first 6 holes and wasn't really doing much. Next minute he's 3 under through 9 holes and 2 clear.

Even when he gets into some sort of trouble, he gets out with excellent par saves. His rivals either bogey or double bogey when they get in trouble. He has gained nearly 8 shots on the field on the greens alone and leads that category.

Fitzpatrick tied Scheffler fleetingly but continues to miss short putts. He got to 12 under but dropped 3 shots coming home. Hatton was getting up there early but couldn't get it going on the back nine.

I had a fiver on Justin Rose after round 2 at $126. He came out of the blocks firing with 5 birdies in the first 7 holes. He also stumbled in the end for a -3 round with 8 birdies.

Lastly, Rory also came out breathing fire, could have been 6 under through 7 holes quite easily (was 4 under). He too just plodded to the line with some errors and finished on -8, still 6 back.

In all, Scheffler will be the 2025 Open Champion.

An opening birdie by Scheffler all but put the tournament to the sword. He lead by 7 after going -2 thru 6 holes. He stumbled ever so slightly, with 2 big par saves on 7 and 8 and then a very uncharacteristic double on 10. A lesser man would have dropped 4 shots instead of 2 in this stretch, but with all the chasers faultering, he still lead by 7 on the 13th tee.

In the end it was a 4 shot victory, from English and Gotterup, who has been ultra impressive in the last few weeks on the links setups.

Scheffler lead the field in approach as usual, but he also lead in putting. This time last year his putting stopped him from.winning more. Now he has figured it out and has 2 majors and a host more wins this season.

My guys all fell short. In different ways.

Fitzpatrick finished 4th on 11 under and it has to be said he was disappointing on Sunday. Something was off with a case of the lefts and really his 2 under flattered him.

Schauffele did his usual thing and got into the top 10. He couldn't buy a putt, which was the story of the group, where Hatton was along side him. Hatton literally did not make a single putt on the day and give himself a host of chances, so many that he actually could have made a run for the Claret Jug. It got to a point where it was too high a mountain to climb and he settled at 7 under.

And with that, we have our major champions in Rory, Scheffler, Spaun and Scheffler. Numbers 1 and 2 in the world were able to snag 3/4 majors.

The attention turns to the FedEx cup playoffs, where the handicap format has been scrapped. Should not make a difference one would think !

Chiming in after round 1 of the 3M open

    Jake Knapp $13 - 2 units

Shot 7 under in the arvo groups and is amazingly still 4 back of course record maker Adam Svensson. Hell yes off in the morning so should get the best of conditions.

Over at LIV Uk, Hatton has sucked me in at 8.50. 2 units here as well. Friendly viewing time for us Perthians.

    Good luck

For those who enjoyed the first movie, Happy Gilmore 2 premiers this evening on Netflix.

Hopefully it is as enjoyable as the first one with plenty of PGA tour and LiV golf cameos

Kurt Kitayama goes scorched earth over the weekend to win the 3M open by a shot from Sam Stevens.

Kitayama was -6 after a Friday 71, making the cut by a shot.

    Goes 60-65 to shoot -23.

Knapp was -13 after a Friday 65. Goes 67-68 to lose by 3 back in a tie for third at -20. He bogies the easiest hole on the course ( hole 18) from the middle of the fairway, where he has 7i into a par 5 and dunks it in the water. Eagle would have tied things up but he fell agonizingly short by about a metre directly at the pin.

    Winning is hard!

First week of the FedEx playoffs. No bets this far and probably won't at this stage. I liked Fleetwood and missed the boat, he currently leads of course in round 2. Might wait till the completion of round 2 or 3 to dive in, unless Scheffler is winning, or close to.

The tour heads to the second round of the tour championship at Cave Valley for the BMW. The top 50 in the FedEx cup points system have advanced in this no cut event.

As usual, Scheffler dominates the betting at 3.50.

I'm particularly bullish this week on Cameron Young, who continues to play well. Caves valley requires a long accurate game and he is performing that way at the moment. With Rory have had the week off and Scheffler has a different caddie on the bag this week, it might be a chance for someone else to snag a win

    5 units at $23

Final event of the season upon us at the historic East Lake, for the Tour Championship finale.

Normally a handicapped strokes event which sees points winners be rewarded for the season long efforts, it is no more. Everyone starts at zero like a normal tournament, only with 30 competitors and no cut.

Long story short, it's Schefflers to lose, and any result other than him being crowned FedEx Cup champion is an absolute farce.

Sensationally, he has more that 7000 FedEx Cup points, about 4000 clear of nearest rival Rory.

Yet, someone could have the week of their life and claim the tour championship and FedEx cup champion title.

Anyway, the format isn't for me and there is seeming no reward for the dominance of Scheffler.

It won't matter, he has been installed at the 2.50 favorite this week!.

Because of this, I am playing the "without Scheffler" market.

I'll do some accounting soon, but it's been a loss this year. A combination of being a week or two early, not having the stones to attack the short process of Scheffler and general upset winners in alternate events, couple with the ever decreasing available and ability to devote any time to in depth analysis and actual watching, the 24/25 season is one to forget from a punting perspective.

We'll try and go out with a bang here.

    Without Scottie

    1 unit Fleetwood @ $9
    1 unit Young @ $21
    1 unit McNealy @ $26

    Same tournament multi 10 legs

    Winner Scheffler-Fleetwood-Young
    Top 5 Scheffler
    Top 10 Fleetwood and McNealy
Cam Young 3+ birdies round 1
Rose, Scheffler, Fleetwood and Rory ALL 4+ birdies round 1
    Rory top Irish player

    2 units at 26.60

Lastly, Rose first round leader at $31, 1 unit here.

    Best of luck!

Apologies for the radio silence, its been a very busy few months!

First of all, by my accounting, the end result was a terrible -162.5 units for the year.

I did scrape some back on Europe winning the Ryder Cup at 2.65 and also picking the corrrect score in the end of 15-13 Europe. Not posted though so not included.

So the thread will close at -162.5 units.

Been a long year with many near misses! Debatable whther at PGA Tour 25/26 thread will start up. See how Im going in the next few days. The Race to Dubai in Europe is heating up and the new PGA tour is in full swing already with Scheffler winning the opening event (Procore Championship) a few weeks ago.

H Bomber , just turning into the Ryder Cup with DeChambeau Blue , give us a rundown of what happened . What set them off .

Rose was lining up to putt and Brysons caddie was standing far too close to rose who was doing aim point. The caddie mistakenly thought it was Brysons putt and Rose had a go at him. Rosesinks the putt. The Bryson comes in and buries his putt and then starts firing up at Rose and Fleetwood, who didnt back a way from an argument. Scheffler just hung back not wanting any part of it.

The caddie made an error, Rosie probbaly a bit heavy with the language to get out the way, but Bryson then inserted himself and just looked like a bit of a douche.

Bomber and the Rory incident with the women Introducing them on the first tee . What happened .

The lady annoucing the teams etc was getting the crowd going before the strta, enciting a "**** you Rory" chant from the Americans. Totally unacceptable for a person in this position to do this, in my opinion. She was caught out in a stupid moment and paid the price with her job.

Those who watch the Ryder Cup would agree that the new york crowds were animals, especially towards Rory and his family. Some of the stuff being said is just unbelievably vile.

My 2c is that the Americans crowd use patriotism to justify their vile behavior. All they do is sling insults to the European players and they forget they should be cheering and supporting their actual players. The constant USA USA gets tired after 2 minutes and in the absence of their team doing well, they resort to insults. Im not saying the euros dont do it, but their supporters seem more interested in supporteing their players than insulting the other team on a personal level. There chirping is in the form of songs.

As Rory indicated in his interviews, golf should be held to a higher standard and this behavior is disgusting. The PGA of America set this up having New york as the venue and inciting the crowd to be like this. They failed on almost all levels, not to mention the captaincy, team and course set up. It literally was a putting contest in the end on a course notriously difficult when missing the fairway. These blokes just launched away and literally missing the fairway was better in the end, in terms of angles to the pin and controlling their spin. Europe lead the putting stats with the first 6 out of 24 players of the week. The US dropped the ball and really could have set the course up to be impossible when missing fairways, but instead, set the course up EASIER than a normal PGA Tour event. In the end, Europe won but the damage was done on the Friday and saturday for the US with their pairings and poor play.

Outside of the US, I think most were pleased to see Europe win away. It caps an amazing year for rory who ticked probably 3/4 boxes of his to do list in golf (Masters, career grand slam and Away Ryder Cup). He only really has one more mountain to climb for him and that is an Olympic Medal.

Thanks Bomber , very interesting . Stayed up from 2am and watched the last day . Had everything for a golf novice like me , excitement was like rockets and fireceackers exploding as the USA made a comeback to nearly steal it .

Europe smashed the USA in the team format and the USA smashed Europe in the singles. I think that sums things up nicely. A champion team will always beat a team of champions.

I don't bet on golf but I really liked Tommy Fleetwood in the Indian Open at the unforgiving Delhi Golf Club. On a course where you have to hit it straight, a flusher like Tommy was always going to be suited.
Kicking myself for not having a go.

So in the end, LIV was just a "thanks for the cheque, we will say whatever you want us to say" exercise that hailed the 54 hole format and is now claiming the move back to 72 as a "revolutionary" move....back to what is always was?

Will it change it's branding from LIV  to LXXII Been like watching a shakespearian farce.

  • RodentRodent    7,457 posts
I think it's more a case of "it doesn't matter how good our players are, they farcically can't get any OWGR points in 54 hole events due to the closed shop that OWGR are".
They could easily have given them 75% of the points they otherwise would have got. They could have been harsh and given them 25% but to give them nothing? Rahm gets no points but some spud that nobody will ever hear of gets ranking points. You get points for tied 35th at the WA PGA which had a field where the best player was outside the top 500 in the world but you get nothing for winning a LIV event?
They have changed to 72 reluctantly for this reason, not because it's a better business model. They've been blackmailed into it. They're just talking it up to save face.

Rahm is #71 in the world. His 4 Major appearances this year he came T14, T8, T7 and T34. Do you think his world ranking is accurate?
The current #50 in the world is Matt McCarty. He T14 with Rahm at the Masters and missed the cut in the other 3 Majors. In 25 starts this year he has had 8 missed cuts, 3 top 10s and a best finish of T3.
Tyrell Hatton is #26 on LIV yet #21 in OWGR which tells you there must be some pretty good players on LIV. Probably says Tyrell is much more motivated when he's playing for ranking points too.

The OWGR is an absolute farce, has been for a while now. I'm not sure what the fix is, but the Rahm example perfectly shows it's flawed.

The last two events of the DP world tour were excellent to watch for those who caught it.

Looking forward to the coming weeks for the Aussie "Summer of Golf". Rory will be all the talk in the Aussie open. To see him hit a ball in person is one of my golfing to dos.

In the Australian PGA, in a weeks time, there's a few sneaky blokes that will perform well who may go under the radar. Certainly big names like Penge and Jordan Smith if they turn up will be in the mix, one I'm waiting to see the odds for is Daniel Hillier.

Currently sweating Andrew Novak in the RSM on the PGA tour.

Hardly any time for watching and certainly playing in the last 3 months or so. Hoping to change that soon!

Hillier climbing the leaderboard only 1 back at the moment. He hasn't had his A game and is still right in it.
  • H-BOMBERH-BOMBER    10,567 posts
Hillier does the right thing and finished T5 and paid a full divvy (6-1) for the top 6 finish. Happy with that when he wasn't even near his best and had a lot of near misses on day 4.

I'll be reloading again this week for the Australian Open.

Some bets for the Oz Open

    Hillier win $29

    Hillier Top 10 $3.10

    First round leader
    S Munoz $34

Rory probably smokes them. Another great Open coming up.
  • H-BOMBERH-BOMBER    10,567 posts
Good start by Hillier at -3 in the tougher afternoon wave, should get the better conditions in the morning. Leaders are at -6.
  • H-BOMBERH-BOMBER    10,567 posts
Hillier still in striking distance at -6, 3 off the lead.

Have backed Cam Smith at $11 at the half way mark at -7. His putter is heating up and I reckon he'll have a ripper weekend.
