The last trainer to win a Railway other than Team Williams was Rhys Radford with Great Shot beating Black Heart Bart. Would be a remarkable story if he can do it again on Saturday with Comfort Me.

Barrier draw will be critical but I would rather take 20/1 ew Comfort Me than evens Western Empire. Drops 7.5 kgs on his last run.

Only way they can beat Western Empire is if he draws 1 and gets held up the entire straight (even then he can sit leaders back and force a run most likely).  I’ve heard a few people mention The Notoriuos One ran a quicker last 200m than him in the Asian Beau.  Have a look again, he was eased down 150m out, could have easily won that by 5 if he was ridden out.

Edit - watched again and eased down at the 75m mark but was 4 in front at that point running away, stand by could have been 5 lengths if pikey wanted

Surely the Lee Steere form stronger than the Asian beau.. well a little at least.
Western Empire looks the goods.. I am just looking for the exacta at this stage..
Thought Neufbosc would of accepted n just gone flat out with the 53kg.. but obviously kept safe..
Ahh well doesn’t seem a lot of value in the end.

Yeh they still usually get a run through in the big mile races and Pike is the master of same, though i do think The Notorious One is suited better at 1600 so is the fav..they would be my quin/exacta not particularly great value.
Massimo will stick on i reckon he definitely goes in my Trifecta.

Not sure on that the first 3 placegetters in the Lee Steere are all at the top of the weights this Saturday and giving the field 3 to 5 kilos and may all be a little query at the trip with their weight.
For example Dance Music is up 3kgs on last year when well beaten, i like this girl but she has very little chance hence the $31 on offer.

I backed Kay Cee a few weeks back at $34 all in. She drops to her lowest weight (53kg) since the KT win. All of her other races she has carried 56g plus, except when she won the Belmont guinea with 54.5. Drops 3kg on last year and 4kg off last start. Numerically her form is average but her runs have been huge. Talking through my kick but if draws well she's a massive hope

The domination PetersPike and Williams have on this race looks likely to continue. Has there ever been a more successful combination in Railway history?.

Hearing you Falcon. here is a question what other owner trainer jockey combinations come remotely even close. I can think of a couple but a bit before the current PWPike combo

i was o/seas at the time but was rod kemp alligned to any stable?
way back maybe treen and abo jordan..
Rex may have a few ideas.
but nothing comes within a bulls roar of the double P combo....in fairness we would have to include the Williams

Rod Kemp rode 11 group 1 winners ---- Ted Hickling & Buster O'Malley would have provided at least half of them- Eastern Temple(H) Importune (H)  Sanatate 2-- (H) & Phizam- Rant&Rave .for Buster.

The Pike - Williams combination is the best in my opinion. I worked for Abo and honestly don't rate him as a top horse trainer. He had good staff and he was the best trainer of owners ever. When he finished at Tribradden he couldn't train laddy to **** on the wall when he had to do it on his own.

who was behind abo at tibradden, rex? i trained a few cup winners, i recall fairs print ridden by p.o'l.
loved his minchinbury "champers" did abo...

When I worked there Frank Allans son was Forman. It slips my mind before that but they all were good horseman. I strapped Fairs Print when he won the Perth cup and the next day led him down to the back track at Tribradden and About didn't even know what horse it was. loved his champers.

Agree though 1.60/1.70 Sportsbet is short enough.
  • Does anyone have records of starts by Marjoleo? Norm Fawcett trained? It won the Railway in December 1977 - do I remember correctly that it was first up and hadn't started since either the WA Derby or Aust Derby the previous year - 12 months off the scene?

Favourite obviously the one to beat but I am with Bomber and Kay Cee and I also think Too Close The Sun shouldn't be ignored

Wonder if CJP chose Massimo over TNO? Donga could be primed for the upset and Team Gangemi are on song with 7 winners this month @41%
Massimo is a chance with a perfect ride/luck 57.5 will hurt him late though.

no, but i can remember backing marjoleo one day when i was at the picnics at balnarring(can't remember where it was racing...maybe flemington).
maybe last day of flem spring carnival, used to always go to balnarring for that day.

can't remember if it won though.

george hanlon had it at mordialloc.

weird, the seemingly innocuous things one can remember from the long ago.

Just baffled by the Railway market. How Kay Cee is $31 and so many shorter is weird.

I'd love to see Kaptain Kaos win the race for Michael Grantham, a young bloke who works his ass off and has done for sometime (not saying any of the other trainers don't) Its a fair effort training TB's let alone training and driving SB's. A good young bloke from a family of good people.

Best of luck to all who have a runner, the trainers and the jockeys. Here's to a safe and enjoyable days racing

Footnote, young jockey Hannah Fitzgerald is making great progress and drs say she's in front of where they anticipated her to be at this stage

my roughie is tellem we're coming.
i think the fav. is far too short therefore extending the prices of some genuine chances.
