I remember working on the barriers at the Kal trials one day quite a few years ago when Phil rode a couple of babies he had brought down from Leonora. Game as Ned Kelly getting them into the gates and jumping them.

Speaking of Goldfields legends where's that Lang Inwood fella.
Any chance we can get his Mrs to sign him up for his expert comments.
    Yehhh she'll be right mate.

Langs daughters could do a proxy for him.....while he does what he is best suited to...picking up the yards & not answering his phone whilst singing the collingwood anthem and breaking into involuntary tears. :((

Jay Jaty - re Collie numbers

    agree disappointing numbers at Collie

there has been opposition to Collie racing this Sunday when the yearling sales are on the same day which may/may not be the reason for the low numbers

last year there was no meeting on the day of the yearling sales which probably should be the case every year

Something that RWWA should consider when doing fixtures for future seasons

  • JayJayJayJay    8,623 posts
Agree, the clash of dates certainly not assisting. I thought about it a bit....not totally sure that the Collie regulars are big yearling buyers, but I don't know. Full house at Narrogin on Friday supports the idea but Pinjarra is a bit skinny for Monday. Hard to draw any conclusion with certainty.

Four meetings in four days in southern region.
Probably not the horse population to support it.
Maybe Northam and Narrogin programming needs to be worked in a little better as they are able to support each other.
Collie Pinjarra and Bunbury along the same lines.
Must be frustrating for Eastern districts trainers and owners with horses sitting in yards and Narrogin being closest opportunity.

There has never been enough weight given to the dovetailing of regional meeting programming in WA. It is not an easy task given seasonal weather variations and historical local regional commitments but it is an absurdity for a raft of reasons to manufacture competing priorities within the industry such as attending once per annum yearling sales and same day country racing dates.

Poor form by Collie not budging.

    Collie not budging Chandon [-X

Why should they, there season has always been run two weekends apart starting from middle of February. Poor form from whoever wants them to budge. Collie should not have to break tradition. Surely the Sales organisers could have looked at fixturing and worked around that. Like Magic Millions do at the gallops

You bend over once, And you will continually get F#$%ed

Given the condensed horse population in the Southern region now and the lack of racing in the Eastern districts, maybe these round set ups needs to be reviewed.
Maybe Collie should be spread over 6 months of the year not condensed.
Can understand Busselton (night racing, tourist town over Christmas break mad to shift it) and Albany to a certain extent, but not Collie.
This would give greater flexibility for programming and increase field sizes.
Not having a go at Collie here but i feel the whole programming thing needs to be reviewed as the "landscape" for pacing in WA has changed considerably over the past ten years, however we seem to be following the same pattern re programming.
IMO this is contributing to lack of runners and having a detrimental impact on turnover.

Industry participants survival is based on stakemoney earnt ask chris lewis how he organizes his holidays.Whens the last time his missed a Friday meeting without a suspension being involved,

Not even a real issue if you want to a buy horse you make arrangements we used to inspect yearlings on Saturday, speak to the vendors if your in the ballpark etc & .with on linebiding a option its more so if the industry doesn't nominate for collie then changes need to be looked at.

Australian standardbred breeders assoc. home page has the yearling sale at Belmont march 10th  think they would get it right,,

Bud sidewinder doesn't get a start in town, handicappers discretion apparently,
But the field is atrocious, either the system is broken or the handicapper has NFI

Didn't realise 4 wins in R company guaranteed you a start in the city.

I can pick at least 5 horses in this race that could not start off handicaps in these R class races that wouldn’t run in the first 5. Chandon if you think just because a horse races for less money they haven’t got ability and shouldn’t be able to race in town you seriously need to reassess your opinion and thoughts. Let’s not forget this ridiculous handicapping system is forcing horses to race in town in the less then $40k race because if a horse is on $38k or round abouts and it wins a little shitty R class race according to Chandon all of a sudden it has to race M4-M5 horses in town (that’s assuming it would get a start with terrible winning country form)

Seriously, is that your response. Any chance you elaborate some kind of explanation why they are better then Budd Sidewinder? Also I didn’t mean any disrespect to the other horses

Can add The Arsonist to the list, maybe Four Starz Forsa.....and yes, I watch Harness Racing....with two eyes.....at the track......at all tracks. And as Sir Humphrey might say, a most "unfortunate" decision to not include Buzz, most unfortunate indeed.
