Seems to be all over Twitter yesterday. 16yo

That Aus Cup second still hurts to this day, was the biggest certainty beaten

He beat Apache Cat at the peak of his powers in what is known as the Makybe Diva nowadays?

He was the champ we wanted after Northerly. RIP

Wasn't it Marasco who at his first start at Ascot was leading pretty comfortably in the straight and jumped into the fence richoshayed of it and won. Think Link Robertson may have been on top

Not sure it was his first start, but that happened yes.
    And Robbo on board yes.

    5th start at best.
Beaten at first three, and Shooter McGr on board 4th start (1st win).

    RACE 6: THE WIDOWS & WARDS – 1200M
HOOKSY (S. Parnham) – Held up for clear running from the 400m until approaching the 200m.
CALICO BLUE (M. Forder) – Steadied at the 550m.
KILFENORA LAD (G. De Bari) – Trainer Mr K. Williamson advised that the gelding would now be spelled.
    AKHESON (S. O’Donnell) – Slipped on jumping.
MARASCO (L. Robertson) – Lay inwards shortly after straightening until approaching the 200m.
NO TRUCE (W. Pike) – Raced fiercely in the early stages. TYCOON RUBY (L. Camilleri) – Raced wide from the 600m. General: An Inquiry was held into the reason for MARASCO (L. Robertson) making heavy contact with the running rail inside the 100m. It was established that after laying inwards from shortly after straightening until approaching the 200m MARASCO then raced truly until the 100m when the gelding changed stride and shifted inwards and made contact with the inside running rail. As a result of this contact MARASCO took fright and continued to lay on the rail and became unbalanced. Stewards were of the opinion that this incident was not attributable to the gelding’s racing manners and as such no action was taken. Trainer Mr
    F. Kersley advised that he would monitor the gelding’s tractability in its track work.

At that stage of his career he was so explosive, I understand that was a midweek event but that was ridiculous how he circled the field on the turn and then raced away from them. Was a moral beaten in the Peters to get a railway start so had to go to the Winterbottom which he won quite easily. He had the unlucky Melbourne campaign which has been mentioned above and then I think his best started to fade. Distant last in a cox plate didn’t do him justice. I still have him in the best couple of horses WA has produced in the last 20 years and I remember him fondly. RIP the mighty M

Marasco no doubts  about  his ability standing them up sometimes 10-15 lengths at the 600m and still win ..while running low 33s in the process. one day over 1800m broke33 carrying 59kgs tarzi was a real good horse he ran 5seconds to him,,,,Would have loved to ,have seen him set for 1200m straight  races at flem,  where he would have settled only four to six lengths off the  leaders then unleash.a kick in the **** from being a champion
