Depending where you look, on early markets it's around $2.20 Galaxy Star and $3.60 Material Man with the fave as short as $2 and Material Man as long as $4. Gatting and Perfect Jewel next best approaching double figures.

An enticing clash. Material Man 25 starts and "worst" effort placing wise in his career is running a close up 5th in a Railway Stakes - remarkable.
Galaxy Star - consistentcy is not her enemy either - she's had 14 starts for 10 wins 3 seconds and a third ( Kingston Town ).

Between these two horses 39 starts and there worst runs numerically are 3rd in a Kingston Town and 5th in a Railway Stakes.

As punters we can whinge and complain about a few things ( I do ) but Galaxy Star and Material Man - no complaints about them! A traditional race to look forward to that has stood the test of time.

    Just doing the sums..
    39 starts.
    24 wins.
    8 seconds.
    3 thirds.

    35/39 in top three.

Material Man makes up the other 4 runs - 3 fourths and a terrible 5th. ( Group 1 Railway ).

Only a name but CB Cox Stakes - forever.

Galaxy Star firms into red figures - $1.80 or 4/5 and Material Man a bit wobbly at $4 or 3/1. All one way traffic with the early betting.

Now $4.20 Material Man or what's that in the old..um 13/4. Or a fraction less than 13/4.
Would be great to see Material Man a couple in front at the furlong with Galaxy Star chiming in fast.

Of course there's always the chance of an upset and neither win. Hard to envisage though.

how "he" accepted the name change has me completely baffled...
when a race is named after an individual it is normally after a period of time. in this case it was given to a person not  worthy of a his name to a mt. magnet maiden. i'd like to know who rubber-stamped it and why it was done with astonishing speed.

Either of these two to win with Gatting to take the Perth Cup.

This would be ideal. Material man holds in from Galaxy star and a very fast finishing Gatting

    Will accept the original name.

Will also settle for a slight change into the "Turd Van Hemorrhoid"

    ;))

If Darren calls it "The Ted" during the run I think I'll throw up

You could also go for Turd Van Steamst but that's not very nice.

ROTS, it's Galaxy Star on top; but don't worry, I make many more mistakes in my preview each Friday!
I took 1.6 the place on MM pre final field all-in over here.

Heard him say that on the Big Breakfast the other morning, nearly spit out my coffee!

Surely the name will return to it's original name sooner, rather than later!

Was it last year where he called it that just after the field jumped? I knew that would go down well on PTT. I've no doubt D Mac reads this forum on occasion. I wonder if he was trolling? ;))

25k Jackpot on the first four : difficult to imagine Galaxy Star not running 1st or 2nd and hard to envisage Material Man & Gatting missing 1,2,3,4.

However it's marvellous how often it can occur. Still have to get it in order and even an all favourite basic result will stay pay upwards of $100.

The first four dividend on the Kingston Town of Arcadia Queen, Material Man, Galaxy Star, Gatting - the hot favourite plus the Railway Stakes trifecta paid a remarkable $255.

Material Man 50/50 to even run on Saturday now, because of the heat and starting times.

Also nominated for the All Star mile.

Its just a caution, in other words, “let us ruck up 20 mins before the race or we scratch”

Seven horse field for the CB Cox Stakes, ranging from a 1/3 favourite to 66/1 Dark Musket.
Very good horse Galaxy Star but seen many a greater Cox Stakes. No Meliadors ( WA champion ) or Arwon's ( Melbourne Cup winner ) in this lot.

Will be interesting to see how close Gatting gets to her just the same.

Do we have a "Meliador" named staying race ?
Should do...he was an out and out champion.

Think he clashed with Arwon three or four times and accounted for him on each occasion, including the Perth Cup.

one would think the result and more so the margin would be just about the same if not greater than when they met in the Railway

Am leaning that way too Hash although seen stranger things happen. Might be one of those things to look back on in the future...wherever Gatting finished Galaxy Star was in front of him.

Those Meliador v Arwon clashes were always the same trifecta result 3 or 4 times in a row.

    1. Meliador
    2. Arwon
    3. Taksan..he was a very good ES stayer but just couldn't quite bridge the gap on the other two from memory. Beaut grey horse he was. Might have won a Caulfield Cup not sure now.

I remember when Melbourne Cup winners Piping Lane (1972) and Tawrrific (1989) came across to Perth for the summer carnival and won the Cox Stakes when it was 2400m WFA.

Rogan Josh also finished 2nd in the 1998 Cox Stakes (winner was Jack Daniels) before his spring success in 1999 during the Melbourne sprin carnival

Yes think Melbourne Cup winner Tawriffic after winning the CB Cox Stakes ran a barry crocker in the Perth Cup finishing well back.

    Here's a punters question :
What was so unusual about the name of MC winner "Arwon" ?

Wouldn’t the KT be a better guide - being a closer distance, and WFA
