Yesterday I tried to put a place bet on Wakan Tanka with Tatts and somehow ended up with Lord Greystoke at $10. It was a fluke but wasn't for much money. My biggest ever fluke was when I thought a corporate had made a $13k error in my favour when they paid me on a quaddy I was sure i didn't get. It turned out that the leg I had missed out on was declared a no race! It was Esperance 19/2/16 and the winners were 1st leg $21.60, 2nd leg $16 and 4th leg $9.50. I was gutted to be "knocked out" in the 3rd leg.

I remember that race, I was on Lookatim Go each way which got interference and didn’t place.

Luckily they couldn’t get the starting barriers off the track and it was declared no race and I was refunded :D

Mine not really a fluke but very lucky just the same...was on a horse eachway at one of the outer country Queensland tracks..either Beaudesert or Kilcoy one of those type of tracks...about twenty years ago..my horse jumped well in a sprint race but two others came across as well..and my bloke had to ease pretty badly...end of the race ran third...the other two beat it home by about 1 to 1.5 lengths.

Hoop protested..third against second and first..needed both to be upheld..remote chance, the interference was strong but couldn't see both being upheld. One yes - two no.

Had to get back to work..was late enough...but later on in the afternoon rang the old tab results number, actually spoke to an operator in those days...she gave me the results of the race and blow me down...both protests upheld! Was a 2k result...pretty confident given it all back though.

There hasn't been too many double protests upheld but when works in your favour it's one not to forget.

An accidential result that almost was but never became anything because of my stupidity was $60 wins straight out on Grand Jardin on melb cup day about 8 or so years ago.

I marked the wrong number on the ticket. Looked at the ticket saw it was on the wrong horse and decided to cancel it. even after my mate pleaded with me not to cancel it, i cancelled it. Got up easy and payed 40s. Not another ticket has been cancelled by me since.

Occasionally about every 3-6 months take all losing tickets ( there's plenty of 'em )....will get scratching money had forgotten about...or a small winning Quinella that didn't realise had, or made a mistake on the ticket - no big ones though.
On the whole win with skill - and lose with an even greater skill!!

The protest result am pretty sure was 1996 - 22 years ago..that's crazy!

I was 13 or thereabouts, at Gloucester Park, used to have to ask others to put my bet on, which for some reason was never a problem. Took a quinella, 2 units for a dollar, 1 and 7. I can't remember the 1 horse, it was one of Kersleys and the 7 horse was a Denis Richards horse Suto San . Anyway, I get the ticket off my benevolent better and he's screwed up, 2 units on 1 and 11. Bugger, I am stuck with it as in those days, you actually had to tell the tote clerk your bet and your numbers, had never heard of cancelling tickets and I was too young to go up and argue it anyway. Race goes ahead, the 1 horse wins and number 11 Presto Prince driven by Mick Taylor god bless him at about 66/1 runs 2nd. Paid $260 bucks and I had it twice. Had a bit of explaining to my Mum when I got home that night....she was sure I had stolen it.

I've told mine a few years go, but will drop it on here again.
I was an apprentice in the Midland Railway workshops and getting home on a Friday was always hard.. Even at 15 i could sit in the front bar and drink until the last tradie left... The old being there with an responsible adult drinking laws!!!!
So i was sitting there and someone told me about a dead cert in the first at Gloucester Park. So i thought, yep i should be able to get home on the 306 bus to Rivervale - bolt home, change out of my overalls and make it to Gloucester park in time.
So i sprint to the midland Bus terminal - which was usual in those day and about the only way you could safely get past the locals and to the bus station.
Got off at my stop, sprinted just on a mile to the house, changed cloths and sprinted back to catch the next bus. Get on the bus, get dropped at the bus terminal on Adelaide Terrace. I think i have about  9 seconds to get the bet on - but was probably 15 minutes...Once again sprinting to the track. Hold my $2 note out as i charge through the gates - with about 7 others doing the same...sprint up to the window  - just after they had stopped the calling of the bets out - and had to fill the ticket in. I had $33 in my wallet...Threw the whole lot on  whatever - and to this day i cant remember the horse - to place. Got my ticket...
Walked very slowly to the track and the race was already going.. My horse bolted in by a couple of lengths (i think) and i thought f..k if i had time i could have put 13 x 20 or something on. Anyway it paid about 2.50 for the place and i thought, i'll be living like a king for next 2 weeks as i only earned $68 a fortnight as an apprentice.
Went up to the window to collect after the siren went, hand my ticket over and the lady behind the windows start dishing out these $50 notes. It was then i realized i'd put $33 on the nose... Think i collected just under or just over  $300...Woke up on the front lawn of my brothers place semi-naked, covered in my own spew and 100's of dollars in my pocket. One of many very good nights at Gloucester Park in early 80's!!!

And people wonder why i love gambling so much. I lost my shirt and jacket, but still had a pocketful of money!!! haha

    Got one here Boys,

I work shift work and got home at midnight. Living in Melbourne with the time difference I would often have a bet at the WA trots. Anyway this particular night there was a meeting at Kalgoorlie with a horse at $1.07 on the tab called Change Stride. It was the 31/10/15. I refreshed the screen on my lap top and the screen showed $1307.00 a win instead of $1.07 by this stage I thought I was seeing things. As I only had 10 dollars in the account I quickly put $4 the win and to my amazement the bet was accepted!!

The race begins and Change Stride wins and I am thinking no way will the tab honour the bet but sure enough the $5228.00 is credited into my account. I quickly withdrew the money by internet transfer and was sweating that something would happen but bugger me dead I received the money in my bank account.

To this day I still cannot believe my luck but being a mug punter I have given it all back!!!

Cheers Boys hope you are all well.

2014 Esperance cup day;;; my best bet of the day was yindi in the last;;;Got my quaddies on
    first leg winner kazuri $20 get round it $4 second leg had quite a few selections in cup , race is run spewing didn't have gold broker $20 winner of cup. nothing left in the account  fly up to the tab $200 on yindi in the last bolts in....@5/1....wait around to collect to put some in my account  put the money in account  balance over 8k.    Worked out what I had done meant to mark no16 martinka, but somehow had marked no 15 gold broker, double wammy certaintly would not have backed yindi if knew I was alive in quaddie;;;

Witnessed in bookies ring, a bookmakers son putting up the prices    twoyearold race early seventies were over 600m  a horse called satin bow  had won its first start by 6-8lths,,,every other bookie had put up 3/1on ….bookies son put 33/1 up..... and a punter  claimed him for1650/50...after the board was set...betting steward was involved  prior to the running of race  and the bet was to stand …..     Ron Barassi  would   never  have come up with a better   spray with what the bookies son coped for 5 minutes from his dad.. after the race.

10 years ago had a fluke punting win of sorts.
I only ever drove one winner on a friday night at GP but won a few mid weekers.
We had a horse in one night that had run 11th the previous week in a listed race but went to the line badly held up 5m from the winner.
When the fields came out for the following week  he drew the front in a 2500m stand and I said to the better half that he was a big chance to win with an ounce of luck given that he was awfully unlucky the week before and had felt a million dollars in running....even though the race contained last weeks winner. Never really thought any more of it from a punting aspect for the rest of the week.
We had a habit of driving to the trots, getting caught up in the night and despite intending to call in at one fast food joint or another usually getting home tired and hungry. On the way in on this night I promised we would get something to eat somewhere on the way home.
On to the race....horse stepped ok but not with his usual reliability...settled three pegs just with tiptoes in ...and proceeded to travel beautifully in running. Turning off the back the horse in front of us behind the leader eased out and the perfect run presented itself for my bloke.....hadn't spent a penny .....breeze horse dropped off...turning for home popped off and we went to the line reined up and won like we had just joined in. Came back to scale and was greeted by an excited other half who said "Now can we at least stop and get dinner at Mc Donalds or somewhere on the way home"? No worries I said well and truly caught up with the occasion.. Heard Richie Bell say the horse had paid $ 9.00 or so but was too happy to think more of it although during the photo process the boss said she had had something on hence her excitement.
Photo's etc with family on track then back to the birdcage.
As I hopped out of the cart I was greeted with a hug that would have broken the ribs of a brahman bull. I had $200 each way she said ...because you were so confident he was a good chance and we got every green light on the way in....it was an omen....plus had him the field the field in the trifecta. Very good I said ....a bit stunned because she wasn't a regular bettor of any degree.....more your 2 each way on a horse with her mum's christian name type. He paid ok $9.00 I remember saying. No ...no ...was the reply ...he paid $54.00 straight out and $9.00 for a Place and the trifecta paid $1500.
It took a while to gather my thoughts ..."whaaaaat".
So whilst I will never trouble the scorer in terms of number of metro wins there is a chance I can hold the record of the biggest collect for a 1 win MO driver.....around a $24 K result all up though I had no part in the punting leg really.
Kentucky Fried I think it was on the way home

Good ol Woodlea Reigns eh @curmudgeon haha....surely you had a bigger collect up at Kal that night when he paid $75 bucks or something, after starting off 40m behind? (or something like that). And then went on and won the Sprint race at the round, whatever it was called ....the Golden Mile of the Mount Eden Mile???. Happy days.

That's him JJ. Good old Woody. He resides in Bakers Hill now ......went to a bloke who rides him in commemorative Light Horse events. Was good to see him find a worthwhile well looked after life post racing.

For years myself and a few close mate have had a punters Club going. .everyone supplies one line of numbers each that are put on every week on favorite numbers which we share any winning div ( got about $1 once when nearly every fav # arrived ) anway a mate joined for about 3 weeks and bailed out ....my mate who places the bets every sat decided to spend the $1 every sat keep # going for himself. Around 3months later $32k jumped in!
