The Other Ascot Sat 21st April Review

West Australian Racing
R1/ Even before the fave was scratched, I was v keen on Great Charade. I really like the sire; then there is the Group 1 trainer and the top jockey.
I am hoping after his v unlucky run last start that he can just jump, run and win.

R2/ Here is another difficult maiden; i'll be watching only.

R/3 I am hoping that my initial judgment that Prize Catch is a 1400m horse only is wrong. I cannot see him being caught 3 wide. I hope he can finish off hard as he has done before.

R/4 Gee I really hope Stevie can win on Discoville. A return to past form would be good.

R/5 Salorsci for  me here; he looks tuned up for it with a recent good barrier trial win. I really like the jockey and the horse is lightly raced and has run great times before.

R/6 Here is another great fillies and mares race. Fred Kersley has 2 of the faves and they are both 3yo's. Stevie is on Necklet; last run was stunning with a great last sectional. I was looking at the Blonde mare but just thought she may not have the class (she loves the distance though).
I finally settled on Blackline. Maybe she has been looking for this distance. If she is to be in the finish she would have to settle up front or on speed.
I think she can do it  in this field and distance.

R7/ Here is the 3200m raffle. But generally a horse has to have a special liking for this distance. That makes me think of Dubai Escapade and Sunset Superman (2 of the most difficult trainers to read in WA).

R8/ I am on to Action here; last run v v impressive and strong at the end. W Pike is due for a Group listed win.
I think Wes was spitting chips after Media Baron ran 4th last time; the horse is blowing in the betting; amazing place odds.
Money Maher has never looked like a stayer to me and I cannot have the girls (famous last words).
Tellem we're Coming was a plodding run last time but... look at the riding change!

R9/ Here is a v even lot. If you ignore the last run Minus Looks is a certainty. I'm Liam'd out. Lorentinio has great promise. Point keeps coming up at shorter odds than I estimate. I give Rotana Beach a chance as he keeps running on well and ..look at the jockey.

Well, as always Good Luck to all in the 4 legged lottery.

+1 -1

The 6.0 on MM seemed v generous; I'd put that up if he wasn't going to stay the 2400m.
From memory, the step up from 2200m to 2400m sees to have found out alot of the Natasha winners
The exception is Boom Time, who after failing in the Derby went on to win the Caulfield Cup!
I had a good win on him that year in the Natasha (sat 3 wide with S. McGruddy aboard).

I don’t think he “failed” in the Derby as such, still ran 3rd.

The biggest problem was he came up against Delicacy. She could have been a superstar if it’s wasn’t for her injuries.

Just noticed in R1/ Colin Webster who never seems to have a first up winner, has Choko in.
First barrier trial win equaled Valour Road time! Then 2nd trial was not as fast and not as impressive.
Now the blinkers are going on (I can never work out his horses anyway!).

    HE also didn’t win the Natasha - it’s a filly’s race

@piker probably thinking of the Melvista?

Oops; you r right Jell; I meant the other 2200m lead up for the boys; the Melvista.
The Boo Time 'failure' in the derby was just me talking through my pocket!

Oh Broker how did it not win??

Top of the straight thought Broker had them covered. At the 200 yes still going to win. At the 100 Prize Catch just, at the 50 Prize Catch definetly, in the shadows still Prize Catch, then right on the line Pikey lifted Broker and thought Broker or a deadheat.

Great finish. Prize Catch by a whisker.

$9.50 and $2.40 Tessie, at the 200 thought oh well first time in her career out of top five but she's done well..then this little dynamo with Jamie Kah aboard came buzzing through the centre. Was like a knife cutting through a sponge cake..there was no stopping her.

Wasn't she dominant Thunder that was the remarkable thing. Full credit to the trainer too, his placement of this horse has been an owners dream.

Call me crazy but Young Thor could run a drum.

He was scratched from a more than winnable race for this and his last two runs have been tough plus I think he wants longer.
