I wasn't looking to get into a tit for tat about ryan again. I just made a small reply to cumudgeon because he had asked a few times about ryans drives. I dont know ryan either and certainly have no "hatred" towards the man at all, just an opinion on his driving ability. No different to the gallops forum that throw rocks at plenty of ordinary jockey's.
Chariots you asked for some facts/stats so i thought i would check how many faves he has got beaten this calendar year.

    Jan 12 GP    R8 Idealindiamonds         2nd  $2.40
    Jan 13 Narr  R5 Covered N Diamonds 10th $1.60
    Jan 14 bunb R2 Bright Diamnds           2nd  $1.50
    Jan 20 Alb    R4 Its Major Bubbles        3rd  $2.00
    Jan 20 Alb    R9 Bright Diamonds         2nd $1.70
    Jan 27 GP    R7 Covered n Diamonds  5th  $2.00
    Jan 29 GP    R2 Play The Boys             3rd  $1.80

    Feb 2 Alb      R2 Ella Gant Player          3rd $3.00
    Feb 2 Alb      R4 Covered N Diamonds 10th $2.40
    Feb 2 Alb      R5 Galactic Star                2nd $1.60
    Feb 2 Alb      R8 Lincs Tiger                   3rd $1.10
    Feb 2 Alb      R9 Master of Disguise       2nd $2.30
    Feb 9 GP      R10 Better b Chevron        2nd $2.20
    Feb 20 GP    R1 Sports Central              2nd $1.50
    Feb 24 Bunb R7 Lincs Tiger                   3rd $1.30

Thats 15 faves beaten this year so far.
Now, before you get your knickers in a twist again, yes there is a spattering of winning faves in between all of those losses. But boy oh boy that is a lot of beaten faves in such a small period of time.
The above stats are just that.....stats, not opinion, that you asked for. Fellow punters on here can form their own opinion on what to make of the above stats.
You will be happy to know i think i have well and truly made my point and wont be commenting on him anymore. Even if curmudgeon tries to suck me in again

I know this is completely opinion based, but I can’t agree with you guys that Matt should be the #1 caller. Listening tonight just wasn’t the same without Richie, he’s more enthusiastic and quirky while McDermott’s corny one-liners and monotony don’t cut it for me. To each their own, however, and these kind of things are always opinion. You can’t please everyone.

Agree didn't have the same feel. However Richie does have a habit of fixating on certain horses almost like hes got a penny on it. I actually prefer Matt Young, seems a bit of waste calling the dogs, but I guess has to cut his teeth where they put him.

  • No doubt he gets beaten on short ones but you will have to admit a lot of them are false favourites because they are trained by the states leading trainer so they garnish more support.
Only have to look at the Northam Cup meeting to show how good a driver he is IMHO

Just my thoughts Boys - I dont like threads where racing and sporting individuals are criticised. I know alot is in jest and as a joke but I believe it is easy for all of us to sit on the fence and be judgemental. We are all guilty of making mistakes and Im sure we all have. Let's put this discussion to bed.

    Cheers cisco
  • Yes G Hall Snr is currently leading THIS SEASONS leading trainer but we are just over half way through but Team Bond is the Reigning States Leading Trainer. Like saying Dustin Martin was the Brownlow Medalist before the season finished and he was awarded the medal. If Snr finishes the season as the leading trainer I will call him such until the end of the next season. Semantics really.

Well i would stay away from the gallops forums if i were you cisco because plenty of jockey's have copped abuse in that forum. Im not even abusing ryan either. Chariots called for some stats so i gave them.
Oh and i wouldn't go on any AFL forums if i were you either. Plenty of individual afl players cop abuse to the point of harassment when they play one bad game. Its just the way the world is mate.
Do i see richie bell copping a fair bit of abuse on here as well? Yes!!
To the point of lots of people calling for him to be replaced. So Richie is fair game but others are not?

    Offthebit,

Dont really follow the gallops or afl forums but again it is easy to be critical. I know how the world is and that is the problem - "media and certain individuals" who have never ridden a horse or played footy have the gall to comment on sports or racing people having a crack.

I dont want to cause an argument with you but I did not mention the word "abuse". I would include Richie in the sporting category so, to me, no it is not fair game to criticise him.

    Cheers cisco

Sorry Cisco.....the day drivers stop doing punters cash cold through careless errors such as locking wheels by not allowing enough room when you are unpressured going around them ....they are entitled to cop some comment.....in any case I have forgotten the words to Kumbaya. ...no big deal like you say.
