And that is what happens when Race callers put Theatrics into there calls, instead of calling what is unfolding in front of them.

:-q

"And Atacama Sky races clear". Surprise Surprise. Gets rolled comfortably.

And then tries to justify by saying it just stopped.
  • Don’t know why I backed Atacama Sky as I usually keep away from girl jockeys as they are a sit and steer riders, and not strong enough when it comes to the whip in close finishes or when the horse starts to fade in running.
  • doopadoopa    35 posts
Atacama Sky is a cat that resents the whip. Nothing to do with a girl rider on that one.

Ironic that the old "social media" debate was raised on radio this morning on the Ryan Hill segment.
Dmac hates it. Gareth says welcome to 2018. Hill says deal with it and don't let it consume you.
First race at Ascot and boom. Dmac is embroiled in another one. Lol
But I reckon he has a few sympathisers on that one including me.
We all laugh at the "early crow" that go belly up. :))

if a punter feels its a shite ride you have to cop it. All stems from the pinj ride on the michael lane horse. Lets be real that was a dead set shocker, deserving of a spray imho

Black Caviar used to "Raced clear of them and has put paid to them".

Atacama Sky previous start Raced clear by more and looked home and pulled up short. As Rodent stated, imagine the poor bloke that was listening on the ole radio. like me last Saturday. Had 25/25 on Naturaliste. D Mac calls it 2nd last. It ran 3rd $4 a ticky. most people chuck there tickets when they finish that far back.

Don't get me wrong here. I love listening to him call. He has a voice for it like no other in Australia IMO. Its just he struggles for accuracy at times.

true jum. IMO he has too heavier workload, sat, sun, wed, thurs and sometimes gerro on a Friday.
other top tier callers get a respite..can you imagine how many colours are going thru his head?
apart from Richie Bell has he got an "apprentice"?
they need to groom an up-and-comer..give him a race or 2 to call starting at the provincials and graduating up to a Saturday.
Darren is not getting any younger and there does not appear to be a line of inheriting the prime job.
    am I correct?

Totally agree with your assessment of Dmacs voice and accuracy statement Jum.
Enjoyed the interview Dmac did with Greg Miles airing on racing radio a couple of months ago.
Greg Miles said that Matt Hill will be the best ever in his opinion.
I raised eyebrows at that statement, but I now believe he could well be right. Matt has called some rippers in recent times and getting better. Got plenty of years ahead of him to hone his craft.

there's only one bloke i know who is better at stopping them.....me!  I can call one that is "cruising" in the run.... nekminnit... its under the bat and gone!
I watched that replay again yesterday... no sooner had it kicked away... it stopped on the spot.
Might be time to put the shades back on.

It reminded me of his call in this 2yo race last week at Ascot. Wachan Tanka is off and gone! I was on both WT and Achernar Star. DMac is a mock.

Yep I can stop 'em too Diva. It's funny with mock's...there was a good mate..but every time had a bet on a race, would often at the very same time spot him at the track or he walked into the Tab and said hi - the bet lost :-< am not the best judge but always felt he was the ultimate cooler - never had the heart to tell him though.

You're all being a bit harsh. I don't think he was being 'theatrical'. I've been on plenty of leaders that do the same thing. They hit the front a long way out and everyone goes the early crow. I always find if they're not increasing the margin, they're vulnerable late regardless of how big the lead is. FWIW Terry Bailey's call at Moe(race 4) last Sunday was just as bad. ;))

Think a key point is being missed - extremely chummy with Walshy/connections of Atacama Sky, and there is no doubt that impacted the call, trying to add theatre at the point he did.

    Not a good look.

Which reminds me of the Stirling Estate/Copper Fury debacle. You'd think they swapped silks after leaving the mounting yard, just own up to the blue FFS.

    Even worse listen. Haha
But he did call them correctly across the line so that's the main thing.
Who called "Kingston Town can't win" ???
That caller has gone down as a legend after that one. Lol

I'm a fan of Richie Bell but I have warmed to Dmac since more regularly listening to him on Sat am preview. We are all human and we all can make a blue sometimes.
The best thing is when you are old and wise enough and can laugh about it afterwards!

A bit of comment on here about Matt Hill. I thought his own effort to inject theatre into last year's Cox Plate was cringe inducing somewhere halfway between 0 and Hilton Donaldson's Black Caviar calls: "The Valley's rocking and the world is knocking" Really?  :-&

agreed. These pre meditated, pre rehersed lines are shockers. Almost as bad as "there is not enough O's in smooth" call for ImTheMightyQuin.

Yeah they all make mistakes and that is forgivable but to script a race call and misfire that bad? I suppose it could be worse....

    I agree also.
I think he would like to have that one back again.
But in his defence at least he didn't "tear"up. Watching a Chris Waller interview after any Winx race is cringe worthy. Someone hand the man some tissues pleeeeaaaase. :((
