Multicultural Day May 14

West Australian Racing
Lets see if it can be as big a day as Italian Day used to be. The Roma Cup is still held on the day. PR are promoting by handing out free passes, which is a good idea.

I can't see it being successful , poor decision by Perth racing

I would've left Italian Day as is. If you wanted to add a multicultural day then just add it to another race program.

The free passes to the local community are a good idea however too many free passes throughout the year does undermine the idea behind getting a membership.

I dont think a membership at this time of year has too much to offer.
the facilities at Belmont are well below that at Ascot.
Agree, Italian day should have been kept as it was. I guess we'll find out next week whether it worked or not.

I agree Diva. My membership won't be used again until spring.

They're better off demolishing the place and getting 2-3 more of those large semi permanent 2 storey marquees like the one at Ascot. It would be a lot cheaper than the grandstand and and if the club ended up selling Belmont they could sell/ give the marquees to Bunbury or Pinjarra.

Great idea. as long as they don't purchase the same model of tent as they have at Cannigton image

Just think for a moment, you have a wonderful time honored product, that never fails to produce a warm cozy feeling on the day of the event and is strongly supported by that ethnic community with pride and passion.

Then in a moment of madness, you decide to alienate all that success by watering down the concept, not growing it into similar National Days across the entire Belmont racing season.

OK, I think I understand the process now. No I will not be going to 'I've lost my National sense of Identity Day'. In this instance I will be doing something else that doesn't have an overwhelming sense of abandonment issues attached to it.

i have been going to italian day at belmont for around 20 years and found it to be the best day of the belmont season and being of italian decent i find it offensive that the most popular day at belmont has been removed , actually the only 3 days i go to the track during the belont season are greek day , irish day and italian day

nah i didn't frenc but I'd also like someone to report back..Italian Day has been a great day for along time and one of those days that was always busy...rain or shine. I thought the crowd was always a 5-6,000 sized crowd and occasional heading out to 10,000.

Was surprised when they decided to mess with wast has in my eyes been a successful day by changing it to Multi Cultural day. If it increased crowds and turnover great mover if not .... then the question has to be asked by whoever made the decision "WTF did you do that?"

Crowd yesterday was 2500 and they budgetted for 2700. Last year under 2000 when it poured rain.Been a very very long time since there was 5-6000 people there 10000 would make Belmont  buckle at the seams.

think the last one i went to was about 3 ago and i thought the crowd was about 5,000, but there were people there early that left early, and there were punters coming in late, so i don't reckon at any one time they actually had ??? whatever the figure was. But i do know they are always good days. If the 2500 that went enjoyed the day it was worthwhile..

Still baffled why they'd change the name though

Perth Racing have made claim on their Facebook page, that gate attendance was up 102% on last year's corresponding day, making Multicultural Day a huge success.

So seeing how there was around 2,500 people there on Saturday outside of staff and Trainers, Jockeys etc, that makes the 2015 crowd around 1250 people ?

I guarantee I wouldn't find that number on the net anywhere in a press release.

Damien have you seen an official crowd for Multicultural day ? Do they post this anywhere these days ? As you say 1250 on last Italian day seems bizarre at best, I reckon the Italian club would have sent that many

    With
crowd attendance up 102% on the corresponding fixture last year, Perth
Racing’s inaugural Multicultural Day was clearly well supported by the
    wider community.

The bumper schedule of cultural performances had
eyes and ears focused on the stage while the food stalls on-course were
a food lover’s paradise, particularly the Italian Village.

Perth Racing would like to thank major sponsor Del Basso Smallgoods, community partner Town of Victoria Park, key partners and the people of Perth who were all great advocates of the day and helped make it a successful one.

that's bullshite. previous "Italian" days had a great crowd..miss Italy entrants for a bit of glamour, great food, Italian beer and drinks...the food stalls were fantastic and provided take-away containers. the desserts and pastries...yummo.

I did not see renarto dell basso when I said I would but will have lunch with him on Friday...watch this space.

There is something about the Italian people that inspires passion to all around them, they want you to enjoy the day they are putting on and want everyone to go home with a smile on their faces, it makes you want to have a good time :)

Emails suggest they may not be smiling in the wake of such a low turnout. 102% or not, the crowd was small by Roma Cup Day history

Think back to last year Damien when on Italian Day it **** down rain and i dont think there were 1000 people on course. I was there last year and i was there last Saturday and for those of us who cared to stroll outside to the Italian village and sampled the magnificent food we really enjoyed the day. I caught up with del Basso's during the day and had a drink with John way after the last and he seemed to be enjoying himself.Twas a great day.

So to suggest that somehow a 102% increase on gate numbers is a marketing triumph for Perth Racing ?

I have asked for it many times of Perth Racing, but once again, could I just ask that you talk in plain and simple facts ?

Even if there was an increase in crowd numbers on last year, last year was rained out so to rely on that as an indicator of success shows how desperate they are.

The numbers were up because Last year was a wipeout due to the rain. If you take out that year, you will find the numbers dramatically down in comparison.
