Bob's four runners in the cup are all by eastern states based sires (as you all know)..........combined Westspeed earnings for these horses $265,000. Somehow doesn't seem right to me when you're already winning every black type race on the State's racing calendar ??

No offence it's great for racing but RWWA have surely made a blue with Westspeed qualifying criteria ?

Bob didn't write the rules but the rules say he's eligible for it and why should he be penalised for being a more astute and successful breeder than anyone else???

The following rules must be satisfied for a horse to be eligible to participate in the Westspeed Incentive Scheme.

    • Is the product of a sire standing in Western Australia at the time the dam is serviced, or
    • is by any sire and is:
      1. the product of a mare which is a least 50% owned by a Western
Australian based breeder at the time the yearling was conceived, as
recorded by the Australian Stud Book; or
      2. the product of a mare which was served by a WA based sire in the
season following that in which the yearling in question was conceived.

Would you rather Bob race his horses entirely in the East and not support the local industry at all and at least provide some reason to make our racing worth watching???

Anyone who spends as much money as he has on his horses and continues to do so deserves every bit of success they get.

I cant see what the problem is.

He is a WA breeder that sends his mares to what he considers to be the best stallions available for them.

Because that stallion does stand here in the West should not preclude him from the scheme.

Breeders in Vic send mares to NSW and vice verca. Plenty travel down from QLD to the southern States, a few even travel across to NZ.

They have tried with the Stallion scheme to keep business here. Personally I don't think that is the answer

Correct me If I'm wrong but I dont even think Bob's broodies even reside in WA  ?????  So they are hardly transported there to be served, except when they first finish racing.....................

Just because its WA owned doesn't mean it has much attachment to WA at all, particularly his dams now who are all bred interstate also ? How many breeders have the budget to do what Bob is doing ???? Very few if any.........................................especially in the current economic environment.

Even though it's none of my business, but Reckon Bob would make a profit from stakes earnt for what he spends on his operations? Good on him anyway I reckon, wish I had the success and the ability to be able to commit so much to a passion. :D

Always happens to the really good horses.

They give their all and suffer for it. We never saw the best of Black Caviar after she hurt her back. at her second start I think it was. Who knows how much better she could have been and how many more races she would have won.

When she won at Ascot, she hadn't been 100% all week, the jockey fkd up, and she still won.

Anyway, it appears my wish to see Delicacy against Winx at WFA is never going to happen.
A minor muscle tear is now known as a '**** up' back? Spare me. Hay List was a virtual cripple for much of his career and he didn't avoid anyone. There was nothing wrong with her when they decided against contesting the Newmarket with 61.5kg.

As for Delicacy's future? Let's wait and see. I'm not a Veterinarian and I suspect no one on this site is, either.
I suspect (know) you are wrong.
     Yours sincerely, Rodent B.V.Sc

major set back for WA racing. This mare was good enough to challenge the best from all states and could have won triple the stakes money.

Perhaps Willie knew of an underlying issue before the race ??

Tragic, Elite Belle and now Delicacy - racing is a cruel game even when you are winning half the card each week

There was a 'spy' that use to come on the Saturday morning preview on the radio with Stewie Shenton...he was quite good , had a sense of humour and played his role well. Can't remember his title...it may have been just 'spy' or something....'spy'. Unfortunately I think he passed away many years ago. He definately added something to the Saturday raceday preview.
