These developments are going up where us trinity boys used to meet our girlfriends for lunch time dhurries. Not the same with residents watching now. Poor fellas! They need to find a new rendezvous point. We used to call this area "the Common", i never knew where they got the name from.

A public beach on the Swan? No thanks.
Also looks like they are leaving no room to widen the Causeway. They may regret that when they are looking "to accommodate a population of 3.5 million by 2050."

@perthracing are we still on track for a mid 2017 opening as stated on your webpage?
  • thefalconthefalcon    20,471 posts
    you jest, mr. rio.....
  • RIORIO    14,902 posts

well they have a section for all the Belmont redevelopment information on their website and it says that it'll be completed by mid 2017. So whilst PR marketing are on here doing a bit of promotional work maybe they can answer some question that we all would like answered. We cant get a straight answer from board members, so maybe this is the new way to find out what is going on???

These buildings look terrible, reading the posts over at the skyscraper site - it's being described as a cassette rack - so true!

Completion date is not the issue, a start date is.

    @Paraletic @Rio @Damien Wyer I've sent it to the GM in-charge of
redevelopments and I'm waiting for a response. Yes, I do agree the
building is an eyesore! It would be great to get a brand new building
that we all can be proud of. Will update you all.

having said that I think we all appreciate your input. thanks.

Gee Falcon someone comes on here and undertakes to take the issue up and all he gets is a typical cynical response.

    Why would they bother.

having said that I think we all appreciate your input. thanks.

I'm sure the but kissers appreciate their input, but may be not all of us!! This is purely an attempt to take the fire out of the negativity towards PR. It is a good, certainly better than nothing.

But the response here is exactly all that anyone can do. As the board don't know exactly where they are with the project. They have aspirations of grandeur, but there are so many underlining issues that they cant be clear as to what they are going to do first.

    Is TABTOUCH being sold??

Is the government going to give them a sweetener to go to one track?

Do they want to preserve the "cash in hand" for standing alone with 2 tracks irrespective of what the government does??

And on and on and on....the redevelopment "Non Action" isn't the problem. The lack of clarity and transparency to members and the general Industry is the bigger concern..IMO

And any sort of attempt to be more transparent has to be good. I'm sure that is the aim of this process..PR have on many occasions tried to screw over industry participants. Whether it is the cost of the pool - "to recover costs"...The poor condition of tracks, training facilities, stables, etc, etc, which is always a lack of funding issue.

So thanks for coming on, but just tell your management to be honest and transparent...Let them know it is okay to say "The redevelopment is on hold due to factors outside our control"..."We are running at an operating loss for the 9th (or however many years that we haven't returned a cent to the members/industry) year in a row as we are hopeless resource managers".....Honest and transparent. Something that this member has not seen from this club.....

Needling and elbowing finished.....No more negative crap from me on PR...They are a law unto themselves and if they want to change good luck to them. It has been stated on here and in private conversations with several members, that the current committees philosophy seems to be to focus on the new members, and if we retain some of the old that is a bonus, if not so be it.....So last negative post on PR whilst this person is trying to be helpful..

    :-$

aqua, in no way was the remark meant to be cynical to the guy/gal doing their best to mend some fences and to keep us in the loop on certain issues.

knowing young Falcon as I do I can vouch he isn't being cynical.(even though as a lifetime member he has every reason to be). I have been..as well as downright rude and negative...but as stated above that will stop and we will let them have their chance to put forward information.

I spoke to a committee member on Wednesday night, and the redevelopment is definitely NOT going to happen this year.Apparently the council approval process has taken longer than anticipated and there are still some issues that need to be addressed. Also there are some points that still have to be resolved with the builders.
I do agree with RIO that the biggest issue for me is the lack of communication to members and stake holders, which seems to be a regular occurrence in WA racing.

But the obvious follow up question then, that the development is actually going ahead at all and when would that be ? The reason I ask, is that I am tired of excuses every year around the time of the Committee/Board Elections. Being the cynical bastard that I am.

This has been going on for years now.

So as I suggested to one person seeking election in two weeks, get Golden River in, and ask them what their intentions are, because developments announced long after theirs, have begun construction, and more are being announced every week it seems.

They are in danger of missing the boat completely at this rate.

You would think with all the time they have had waiting for this that applications for planning approval of individual buildings would be ready to lodge :-?

That is ofc they wish to commence development

  • PR released a survey recently and even the employees stated that they would like transparency. I've had a chat with a few people who work there and their response was "you're guess is as good as mine". Looks like our @perthracing friend won't have the answers as he/she isn't getting any response from the top and won't be any time soon.

Members are getting frustrated as they haven't received their handbooks. Each time we get a reply,  "The members handbook will be out next week." Weeks have passed and there is no sign of the handbook. Irish day was a huge flop compared to last year, they didn't manage to hit and exceed or even come close to 6000. Wonder what this new, late 30s, GM from marketing's doing, looking at the way he's handling things and **** off partners & staff, he's already got a bad rep. Heard that he steps on loads of people in order to get what he wants, unethical tactics that screws good people, many good staff like Chris, Nicole and Tanya left because he was threatened by them, sounds to me like he needs to grow up, he's just a kid in a suit, trying to play in a man's world. Where'd did they find this one? PR seems desperate that they're just hiring anyone nowadays. No wonder the club is where it's at.

seems The Chairman has a different view.

    From the 14/15 Annual report

Progress with respect to the Belmont Park Redevelopment has this year focused on design of
the new Grandstand and race day facilities. Our team as such has been working toward lodgement and
acceptance of our Detailed Approval Plan with the Town of Victoria Park.

This process is invariably slow and we are expecting that the entire development approval process will be completed in February 2016.

Golder River Developments WA are running their approval process for the first stage of their residentialbuild out in conjunction with our programme, albeit they are slightly behind our timing at this stage. Obviously the timing of their commencement date is beyond our control but it is essential that these programmes be coordinated in their timing and that the site is developed in a cohesive manner.

Subject to GRDWA pressing the button on their development, demolition date for the grandstand is
anticipated to be in the last quarter of 2016.

Here is the perfect excuse for Perth Racing. They can blame the market.

    http://www.perthnow.com.au/news/western-australia/perth-apartment-projects-cancelled-as-property-investors-abandon-market/news-story/5591c2d1f4df220e3d6709608f9033e7?utm_content=SocialFlow&utm_campaign=EditorialSF&utm_source=PerthNow&utm_medium=Facebook

We need to move on from the nightmare of the previous administration as this Industry is going nowhere in respect to Belmont.

In keeping with the theme, they backed the wrong horse. Should have gone along with barnett all those years ago. He has spent money like nobodies business. Unfortunately PR got SFA out of him and the next few governments will be tight as a fishes a$$

As stated at the time PR were way too smart to be conned by that spindrift!!!!!! =)) =))

We would have had a new racetrack, new training facility, new infrastructure that would have carried us for at least 20 years in the new direction.

But cos PR are so smart we have 2 old tracks, 1 old and no longer suitable training track, no future plan and no new direction.....If it all went as dreamt it would have been the best plan ever for WA...But burning the government hand that feeds them and now being in this position is the exact other side of the pendulum.

I wonder if Col is set on selling the TAB just to stick it up these drongo's????? Sorry, drongo is the wrong phrase to use...........a more appropriate one is.....Nup, I've thought about it, Drongo IS appropriate.
