Highly doubt it myself ... To scratch a horse from a race like this over a few points which Watkins can't do anything about now would be ridiculous. It doesn't only happen to him, i know of several horses over the past several months who have been penalised to harshly for winning black type races letalone group races. This would only be an interruption to the horses preperation.

Watkins was interviewed by Wes on radio this morning and would not commit one way or the other
His basic complaint was the ratings being different than what he had been told prior to the Peters and then the Bolton
At the end he said it was 50-50 to run on Saturday

There were also articles before the Roma with Watkins declaring Marasco was a monty !
I'm not complaining though.........sure it got me a few more points on my collect !!!

Just reviewing it, he has had a very good run yes.
Think his point is more about Marasco getting deductions though, but that's probably fair too. Horses up at 116 etc are surely going to get points off more readily that horses say in the 90's etc.

Yeah, but I wouldn't bother had it not been pointed out it was there.
Even then I still haven't read it though. Read the article on pr.com instead ;)

He's got a group 1 winner with over $1m prizemoney, and he's whinging a group 2 winner is only 1kg heavier!!!!

Is he kidding himself, the weights should be the other way around in my opinion, I would have expected the Kersley camp to be up in arms before Watkins...
  • TiversTivers    7,720 posts
Spruiking for a price again. Good man !!! :)
  • tonytony    2,436 posts
The funny thing on the interview on radio was that he did not appear unhappy with the weight just that the ratings were not applied as he had been led to believe

Geez red hot Willie on a $51 chance might have to be the best each way bet of the day ! Outside the obvious 2 don't mind Tarzi and Royal Lott but hard to see anything beating them, but you never know racing can be a funny caper there are no such things as certainties.

Gonna be a very interesting race.-----Does anyone have the LINK for the Video of Roma Cup.????????

Am going to tip Marasco on top to beat El Presidente. The Mighty M simply got to far back last start and was never in a comfortable position in running. I think from barrier two he can run a completely different style, and 'The Pontiff' should be able to give him the run of the race. Weight obviously not an issue as he has shown us he can win with this sort of weight in the past.

Barrier 9 for 'The Prez' doesn't look so daunting compared to barrier 14 when the weights were released. Claitey knows the horse back to front so IMO it will come down to a bit of luck in running.

I think Ripped can run a big race and George Daly has his team going great guns. And Oroya Gold on his last start performance to fill the first 4 placings 8)

We are lucky to have two such high quality horses going around at this time of the year. This should make for some interesting WA support come Victorian Spring Carnival time.

I think one of the local jocks should travel with Marasco this year, keep that constant this campaign.

I still think that El Presidente has too many guns for tomorrow.
  • TheDivaTheDiva    13,248 posts
Oroya Gold at around the $2.38 a place is worth snapping up. This horse beat Marasco fair and square last start and gets a 6 and 7kg swing on the favorites. As we know it doesnt win many but really does still perform in elite company and from a good barrier it should be midfield and hitting the line well.

Comment of the week. I haven't got any runners tomorrow, so chance for a week off, but will still go out take a look.

You would need a gun aimed squarely at my head to take $2.38 about Oroya Gold. Capable on his day, but got a charmed run and jagged a placing. Lightning won't strike twice.

Great clash again. This time El Pres. might be 3 wide throughout or back to last and flash home.
Surely Harvey will make a little use of the good barrier and position Marasco at worst midfield with a cushy run then hoping for an 'out'.
I think/hope we just have to forget his uncharacteristic run last time.
  • JordanJordan    1,827 posts
Can't see there being too much speed in this race, probably WRC leading with Tarzi, Local Legend and Stormblitz up there but don't think they will be setting any records. Can't see the pace suiting OG or EP if he goes back from the barrier, Pontiff should be close enough from the barrier to strike with Marasco.

In saying that topliners can win off slow/fast pace so wouldn't discount the Prez on his last win!

El Prsidente to keep his perfect record over the distance intact. Marasco better suited to the Mandurah Crab Festival :D

Actually good race to load up on the quinella or exacta with El and the Crab.

Royal Cobra, Broome Time, Keytomoney will help cover your losses on Marasco.

Whispers for False Bravado in the 4th and Valkry Prince in the last.
