Has resigned as Sydney caller to pursue sports broadcasting in Melbourne.
Richard Bell a possible replacement?

Anyone  from outside of NSW with strong credentials would be a big chance to win this job, unless Mark Shean puts in for the gig

Sky's Matt Hill coming back home to Melbourne to call football for the ABC, good get for ABC, sad for racecalling profession, good luck Matt

And hoping he might call the features Carnival races for the ABC, as Gerard Whatley is terrible. Good footy caller, but race caller - terrible

Also not forgetting that Matt Hill was seriously ill several years back , he did extremely well to get his health back let alone call races. Like him as a race caller he has his own style and is easy to listen to. He will be a bonus for the ABC.

I agree and he should go well at the other form of broadcasting.

don't think so..the eastern states have a wealth of talent "in the back room".

    Name them

This is a big gig don't think it would go to an unknown from the'back room'

Richie would handle it could even do Menagle the guy there average

Michael Maxworthy ex No1 caller Singapore, Josh Fleming, and thinking they may give David Raphael ex Hong Kong a call. Cannot work out why RB has a fan club here, is ok, but not any better than those blokes

Could do worse than inviting Mark McNamara back home from NZ.

Fred Hastings takes time to get used to. A bit like Stuart Lowe for mine. Once you adjust to the sound of someone calling a race while eating a sandwich you realise their descriptions are actually pretty good. And at the end of the day that's all you can ask for.
