R1. Westspeed Nursery - Scott Embry

Obviously it's highly unlikely many people will be taking the $1.35 on offer for Rebel King but some will throw him into multiples and stand him out in exotics. I can't see anything getting close to him so I'll pop him in the suggested betting but personally I wouldn't be aboard today. 60kg for a 2 year old is a massive weight, conceeds every runner 6kg and precautionary bar plates on rears after a hoof abscess. There are a few minor question marks but he has been simply awesome this preparation. Yes I think he'll win but no I dont think it will be as convincing as his past 3. Sheidel is the logical danger to the favourite, very well bred filly by Holy Roman Emperor and undefeated after two on speed midweek victories. Drops 3kg to the 54 minimum and should be the testing material. Sass 'N' Glam has been freshed up with a month off, went down to Rebel King by 4 lengths earlier this year and meets him 5kg better at the weights this time around. I am fairly keen on the 1-6-5 trifecta to start the day.

1. REBEL KING - 6. SHEIDEL - 5. SASS 'N' GLAM

SUGGESTED BET - 1. REBEL KING $60

    R2. Westspeed 3yo Handicap - Scott Embry

Sujet - French for Subject, and the Miller gelding has certainly been the Subject of Hype from the moment he burst onto the scene to debut in the Listed Placid Ark Stakes going down narrowly to Petrol Power. He has returned this preparation for two most impressive victories. From all reports the step up to 1300m should be in his favour. Whiting copped a 14 day suspension for his winning ride on June 14 and it's probably no coincidence that Sujet returns 14 days later. Undefeated run at Belmont Park looks set to continue here and many will probably have him down as the best of the day. Ben Pearce popped into the bookies 'ring' (term used loosely as it was a Wednesday) and had what seemed like a fair crack at Mad Brad first up over 1000m which he was always likely to find a tad short. Ran an impressive second behind Hop On Hop Off and should appreciate the extra distance. Glenn Smith is a positive riding engagement and he does look the main danger. Crown Lawyer will keep kicking, Studio Fify Four can bounce back after a disappointing run behind Bayatorio and Timebomb will hit the line hard with only 53kg on his back.

    1. SUJET - 8. MAD BRAD - 2. CROWN LAWYER

    SUGGESTED BET - 1. SUJET $90

R3. Westspeed Nominations Closing July 18 Handicap - Scott Embry

Most attention will be centered around Tower of Lonhro, Dark Delight and On The Ropes but I'm going to throw up a bit of a rougher hope in True Gold. Both runs this preparation have been encouraging and third up from a spell he can give this a shake. Suited at the mile, loves Belmont Park and if the track holds up as a Good3 then he should find the line strongly. If Smith settles a little closer to the speed and he is within striking distance then he is a blowout hope. Meets Tower of Lonhro, Dark Delight, Danablue and Rusty Peaches slightly better at the weights from their previous outing and I think at 20-1 he is worth a few cheeky dollars. Tower of Lonhro is in perfect condition, rock-hard fit and should be contesting the finish again. Dark Delight has gone under as favourite two runs in a row, drawn awkwardly but should be in the money. Danablue is a tough on speed galloper yet to miss the money from 8 starts at Belmont, may have to work over and sit outside Rusty Peaches. On The Ropes gives Steve Parnham a good chance at bagging a winner in his return to the saddle. Steps up to a mile after two runs over the short course. First up win victory in the wet was super. Only query is the 600m distance increase.

    3. TRUE GOLD - 2. TOWER OF LONHRO - 8. DANABLUE

    SUGGESTED BET - 3. TRUE GOLD $10 x $20

R4. Pink Ladies Day @ Belmont Next Saturday Handicap - Scott Embry

I'm happy to be aboard the big Black Tom gelding Dragonlead in this wide open stayers event. Has endured an interrupted preparation fighting off a hoof abscess and will be sporting the dreaded Bar Plates on both Fronts. His run behind Maussane last week at Pinjarra was enormous, marching 3 and 4 deep from the 1000m improving from last, copped a decent shirtfront rounding the home bend and was pushed towards the outside running rail where the 1000m Pinjarra straight sprinters like it. Drawn to get a much softer run in transit he will see out the 2200m with ease. Meets stablemate Saxy Grace 1.5kg better at the weights after being beaten a long head on May 31st and looks nice eachway value at 10s. Lucciola rises 2kg on her last start victory but with the claim for Lucy Warwick still only carry 54kg which is a feather weight. Won impressively over 2100 so the extra ground shouldn't be a problem, drawn awkwardly but if Warwick can get a spot in running with some cover then she is the obvious danger and deserving favourite. Winning form is good form and she has landed 4 in a row. Goldfields galloper Just A Falcon was tailed off last start at the 800m and shot up along the rails late in the race making considerable ground. He does tend to get a long way back in running so the big field will make it tough but hard to ignore his turn of foot. Jarrad Noske takes the ride and expect further improvement from him.

    15. DRAGONLEAD - 5. LUCCIOLA (IRE) - 12. JUST A FALCON

    SUGGESTED BET - 15. DRAGONLEAD $10 x $30

R5. Strickland Stakes - Scott Embry

When I first saw the fields I was drawn to Fancy Feet but after realising it's Weight-For-Age conditions and the fact the little mare has to carry 57kg for just the second time in her 21 start career I've jumped ship. Operational meets her 3.5kg better than their previous two encounters, both of which he beat her home. The 59kg is less weight then he has been forced to carry at his past two starts and he will certainly be the fittest horse in the race. Running at 2000+ in his last 4 races and finished in the money at his past 5. Has finished top two at 69% of his Belmont Park races and finished top 3 at 65% of races at 2000m and beyond. Just a fool proof stayer and by racing on speed gives himself every chance of winning. If he does get moving from the 600 and turns the race into a staying test I am confident he will simply out grind the rest and record his first Group Success. Ranger, now seriously people, it is RANGER. 966 days without a victory and more excuses then when Damien Drum coached the Dockers. Yes he should be winning this, but no I will not be taking $2.75. Now in the stables of the all conquering Adam Durrant yard and with W.Pike aboard this is his chance. The money did come for him last start to knock off Elite Belle and he almost did but will we be reading about another Ranger hard luck story in the paper on Sunday? History says probably. Bridestone looked good first up, he may have trailed the field from start to finish but he was never going to get warm over a mile, second up over 2000m might be a bit quick but he can turn the tables on a few of these. To round out my Strickland Stakes first 4 I'll go with Grand Old Nirvana, quite possibly his last career outing and deserving of a chance.

    4. OPERATIONAL - 2. RANGER - 3. BRIDGESTONE (NZ)

    SUGGESTED BET - 4. OPERATIONAL $30 x $30

R6. Perth Racing Vip Package Handicap - Scott Embry

King of the Palace is undefeated second up, has finished top two at 5 from 8 outings on a Good rated track, drawn favourably in barrier 5 and looks as though he will position up nicely behind a heavy top end speed lead by Park Lane, Mia China Doll and It's A Merc and should be poised to strike over the concluding stages. Yet to win at Belmont Park but his first up run was good enough to suggest he will extend his second up record. Windswept comes to WA after racing in both NSW and VIC earlier this year. Returns to the track after 133 days without a trial, first career start over 1000m and is a major unknown. Son of Snitzel and one to throw into novelties, watch the market. Park Lane is drawn to find the fence and he will be a big improver. Has been forced to race one off the fence at his past 3 and will appreciate finding the front, can be hard to catch and looks suited. Very open race with many chances.

    11. KING OF THE PALACE - 12. WINDSWEPT - 5. PARK LANE

    SUGGESTED BET - 11. KING OF THE PALACE $10 x $30

R7. Perth Racing Christmas In July 26/7 Handicap - Scott Embry

Galoubay boasts a first-up record of 5 starts for 3 wins, a Belmont record of 4 wins and 6 placings from 18 starts and 4 top two finishes at 1300m. Drawn terribly in barrier 16 but after Chris Parnham's claim he gets in a 58.5, a very competitive weight for this event. Last preparation knocked off some handy horses including Full Steam Ahead, Lets Lighten Up, Dangerously and Dash for Home. Ran When We Were Kings to 0.75L with C.Parnham aboard and looks reasonable eachway value at 10s. The field all look fairly even and none of these are world beaters. Balbowa is the favourite with 1 win from 8 starts where he beat Electioneer who has a 4% winning strike rate. Later runs behind Miki Two Toes and Fashion Priness were sound but he does tend to get a long way back in running and will need Pike to navigate through traffic. Likely to drag back to last from barrier 15 and will need luck. Zuccheros is another who will drift back from a wide alley and hit the line hard. Civil Rights from barrier 13 will probably be forced to chase from further back in the field as will noted non-winner Fonzarelli. With so many horses headed back from bad draws I think the main danger is Right Honourable who will get a soft lead from barrier 3. Should find the top easily and is a two time winner at this track over this distance. Carried 59kg to victory earlier this campaign so 60kg shouldn't worry him.

    1. GALOUBAY - 2. RIGHT HONOURABLE - 15. BALBOWA (NZ)

R8. Tabtouch Supporting The Industry Handicap - Scott Embry

I have an unhealthy love for Black Magic Miss, best described as a 'Teaser' she always puts in eye-catchers and leads me on. Again she'll feature as my roving banker and places anchor and probably run for me in the Raceday competition as it begins to heat up leading into the Final 64. Gladstone, well I've given up. I can't catch him and I can't afford to keep trying. I've jumped off so Murphy's Law says he will win. Fashion Princess meets Gladstone 1.5kg better at the weights having beaten him in their previous clash, Raising Dubai meets Gladstone 2.5kg better beaten a less than a neck. IF Pike and Durrant can combine to get Ranger over the line in the Strickland then surely they can get this blotchy grey cat over the line eventually? Time will tell but I've left him alone. Hinzley will roll along out in front and ensure the race is run at a genuine gallop, he's in good form and is capable of holding on to finish in the money at juicy odds. Kim Mini was impressive at Northam and is always around the mark. Thread Lock meets Kim Mini 2.5kg better at the weights when finishing within a length of him on May 31, beaten favourite in midweek company and balloons out to 20-1 here. Wide open finish to the day and if Gladstone or Black Magic Miss win after I've had 4 or 5 cracks at them in previous previews I will cry.

Wes Cameron was not far off with Timebomb, he has been on a roll with good odds horses lately and always pays to put his tips in the novelties.

Kennedy just gave Carbery a riding lesson

Are you serious, a riding lesson??  how do you figure that??

Rebel King should have won by 3 lengths over Sheidel, the fact that he was only able to JUST win shows who gave who a lesson. Kennedy had a 3+ lengths better horse but only JUST got there. Great ride paddy to get within a whisker of Rebel King!!

3 lenghts better? How do you set that?

They started beside each other, raced beside each other, and finished beside each other. I'd definitely say the ride was the difference........ Oh, and the 6kg.

I think Sheidel is a top liner in the making

That was a awesome win by Rebel King giving the 6 kg pull in the weights an showed real tenacity for the fight with a wlll to win

Sheidel will win plenty of races in years to come

The rude of Kennedy was the difference when
Shiedel layed out straightening Kennedy made a winning move getting up on the inside the best part of the track

Congrats guys RK is a superb racehorse hope u have many more to come in the future here an the east yes I think RK is our next eastern states performer in the future

Sheidel was backed and ridden like a good thing. Ran into a pretty smart one unfortunately for her.
