Credit where due - he got the gun run from dead last at the turn!

But carrying 58kgs, was a massive effort!

I saw the ride from the reverse angle, and I thought it was simply superb. Luckygray saved a lot of room by being taken tight around the home turn and then half the field were either going wide or simply falling off the pace and a massive hole opened up and he slipped straight through without so much as losing a millimetre of momentum.

    Just a great ride.

damien ..it was perfect...thought he(SOd) was going in for the rail...but field panned and lucky fanned into the opening...thought has was flat for the first bit...bit gee did he get wound up...nice work

Donga is a genius at riding that corner like that..Whiting is prone to do it well from time to time also. Looks so good on days like today, when the gaps come.

i was on FIFI and still found myself standing and screaming for Lucky Grey!!!!

Yeah I agree and you're right because as you said it's a shame cos it does well in Perth but is not quite up to it in the east.

In his defense when he was over east, he was ridden upside down! Always too close to the speed and not ridden cold and saved for one last crack like he is over here.

I still think this horse is capable of doing better over east just needs to be trained and ridden the right way.

LG is capable of doing better over east but as to mixing it with the genuine G! horses over east he will get found wanting again and again. He is rated upto the best of them now and to compete over there you need to be able to kick off a hot speed. There is no way LG could sit last over there and get over the top of the best.

I think he would do himself better by doing that Buddy23, rather than sitting on the speed and looking alot more out of place!
Id much rather see him flashing down the outside than dropping out before the turn

Well done to Trevor, Shaun and connections. Massive win and a great effort to get him back in such a short period of time.

Yes i agree that is how he must be ridden but my point is by riding him that way he will still be a couple of lengths shy of the good ones over there. Id target a suitable lesser race like the crystal mile at mooney valley next year @ WFA or the WFA Underwood over 1800m @ Flemington as his grandfinal. He's definately a run on 1600-1800 horse imo

There's a 2000m race here in Sydney next Autumn worth $4m and I'm convinced Luckygray would love Randwick where he could be held up and let go topping the rise. I'm guessing a Newmarket campaign won't be repeated this time? ;)

Great run by Mr Moet though. Off a caulfield cup campaign back to the mile under top weight was a huge effort beaten 2.5 coming from last.
