Just opinions based on latest form what do you think? Win Friday was best of his career in my opinion not the company he beat but the the way he did it and in 1.55

Went quicker (1.53) in the Members Mile and beat Quinnie, albeit on the back of a hopeles drive from Hall jnr.. He jogged in on Friday night and should get an invite. He could break 1.50 at Menangle if conditions and circumstances were correct. But and its a big BUT, is he quite ready for that yet? Experience breeds toughness and its a tough ask to go over there and mix it with some old pro's. It took Quinnie quite a few excursions east before he asserted his dominance.

If Quinny is ok to run he should be chosen from WA if he is still not right than hopefully Im Victorious is chosen as his replacement. He had experience at Menangle on Inters Final day earlier this year when he ran a nice race in the Chariots of Fire from memory.
Christen Me & Terror To Love will be chosen from NZ, Bitobliss, Smoken Up & maybe Restrepo from Vic a couple from either one of NSW & Qld doesnt leave many spots left but I.V is definitely good enough IMHO.

I don't think it is all invitational only a couple of spots are. There are qualifying races I think which is how most of the field takes there place. I may be wrong. I agree if quinny right he has the runs on the board but I seriously believe both horses are in the top few in Australasia.

He is better over longer, I don't think the mile over Menangle suits.

    Definitely

I would be surprised if he does get an invitation.

With a field of 8 NSW are trying to get as many as possible to contest the lead up races.

As I understand it guaranteed starts are given to last year's winner, and the 3 lead up races (1 at Newcastle the others at Menangle).

Invitations are then almost certainly given ti the NZ cup winner and the interdominion winner. They would certainly also invite Smoken Up.

That only leaves only 1 other (or 2 if Quinny does not go) and to head off arguments they would probably give that to a runner in the lead ups.

Think they should take Quinnies flight to NZ! Yes he did beat Quinnie in quicker time the week before but for me this week was far more impressive.
Agree that the mile doesn't suit so head to NZ to show em how its done and get us a price.

I'm with you but gee, it's tough over there (ask the Wallabies) and you need to be very seasoned - great depth in NZ fast class ranks and the locals will gang up on you like nowhere else. I'm just not sure he is ready for that yet even though he jogged in on Friday night. Maybe stay home, win a Pacing Cup etc and take em on next year. Nonetheless, Im a big fan and reckon he is super exciting.

A Tony alluded to, invitations are now restricted to 2 or 3. The rest must qualify.

Im Victorious is flying but he wouldn't be rated so highly that the club would feel they are missing out on something if he isn't there. At least not yet. He is still a rising star with hopefully many years to come at the elite level.

I recon he should take the NZ cup on but i doubt he will get a invite as many of the selections will be for QLD VIC and  Nsw horses

    No chance of nz cup

I think he's going well enough but only a chance to get a invite if Quinn doesn't go.

Went 1.50.9 at menangle in chariots with no luck or run so with the way he's progressed think he could give this a shake.

If no invite will go vic cup then back for Wa pacing cup.

He just keeps stepping up. nothing over east dominating but WA not given much credit but mind you bet you there in no rush to come here and race Quinn and victorious

Needs to win the Mount Eden Sprint in a fortnight impressively to get an invite in my opinion, I think this season of Grand Circuit racing will top Im Victorious off and he'll be the next superstar out of WA. Took Quinny a season to hit his best form against the best and they are of the same breed so forever upward for Snoopy.

And speaking of the Miracle Mile itself, watch out for Terrorway. Had his second trial yesterday, home in 56 untouched. First trial back home in a last section of 26.5 untouched. He is a beast. Can sit sprint or lead and grind out a win too. Will be a major Grand Circuit player for mine.

Would love to see him in the field along with Quinn, Im Victorious, Caribbean Blaster, Christen Me, and Bitobliss. Have Smoken Up in the field and you are guaranteed of a fast pace being set for the swoopers to come and the track record is in danger.

the Mount  Eden Sprint should be a good race

Quinny scratched I read on twitter. Should get his spot

He probably will get Quinn's invitation. He's carving it up at the moment and the MM wasn't originally part of his prep, so asking him to come over and qualify won't happen. The club would like to have him in to add interest I am sure and an invitation would be the only way. He wins the Mount Eden Sprint in good time and I reckon he is in. Whether connections are interested or not this season is another question.

There are a few very high speed horses aiming at this edition. It is being run at night also, which means Smoken Up's record is definitely in danger.

i just think with IV dominating the perth races and christen me dominating the nz races, they should be invited as its not easy to get there and qualify for them.

the other contenders over east are flirting with form also.

no way baby bling is going good enough to get a invite back imo

i would have the field looking something like

    Christen Me (invite)

    Terror to Love (invite)

    Victorious (invite)

    Ideal Scott (invite or qualify)

Chancellor Cullen (should win a qualifer)

    Restrepo (should win a qualifer)

    Bitobliss (should win a qualifer)

??? Leave this spot open incase one of the above dont win there qualifer.

I think that looks very close to the mark But I wouldn't discount For A Reason. Although 7yo, he never raced for 2 years (and went to stud I think) but his last 2 runs have been colossal - home in 25.7 first up 2nd and then 1.50.0 at his 2nd run when he bolted in. Was a top juvenile and now..........well, he would have to be considered for an invite.

Can we please get over talking about invites?

6 of the 8 runners, 5 at least, will have to qualify. Try and keep up. The conditions changed 4 years ago.

I recon that will be the field for the MM but you never know
  • JayJayJayJay    8,623 posts
Yep,, 5 out of 8 qualify, I reckon that leaves 3 invites!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hope I'm keeping up in the sums department. If For A reason doesn't qualify, I'd think he may get an invite. Just a thought, no need to get the angry pills out.

Its funny how this was an invites race and we had the inters which it was basically NSW who didnt like the heats system so they ruined the best couple of weeks harness racing imaginable now they want the mile to be a heats style race!
  • G-MacG-Mac    1,677 posts

There is an element of irony for sure Gilgamesh. It should be remembered that Victoria were first to change the ID format when they hosted it in 2009.

The Cordina Sprint, Coca Cola sprint, and Newcastle Mile all look like being very good editions in the lead up to the MM this year. Gaius Caeser returns to the trials today. He won the last Cordina Sprint and was then controverisially scratched on the day of the MM. Loves Menangle and is a good chance to qualify and gain redemption for Binskin.

Race 7 at Menangle on Saturday night will be very interesting.

For a Reason, Caribbean Blaster, The Gold Ace, Mach Beauty, Pure Power. They should be running good time in that one.

After the Mt Eden mile tonight, answer is probably not - although was a quick time 153.8 and not disgraced - but not his caper at this stage of his career.
  • GilgameshGilgamesh    5,008 posts
Yeah they are on the right track with the vic cup path I think leave the mile alone.

Gee, I watched the race again this morning - would love to know what IV came home his last quarter - leader 28 and change and IV charging home from well back. Was a very good run when you look at it again.

For a reason 1.49.4 without his team mate to help him out this week. The way he exploded away in the 26.9 at the end was phenomonal. Beautide was pretty impressive after locking wheels with Rakarebel. The more you see racing like that the more you think its not the race for Im Victorious, he just doesnt have the early pace for them when they are running home in 26.9 near the top.

On a side note caught the last few minutes of in the gig discussing how they've spent around 48 million on menangle so far with plenty more in the pipeline and how it is such a wonderful facility "by all reports" as Greg Hayes says he has only been out there once on opening day! If one of harness racings premier jernos who is based in NSW has only been out to the wonderful facility once in all this time what does it say about the idea of moving your headquarters away from the metro area?
