Yes but from a punting perspective, I like the Oaks and the races that lead up to it. Yes, the fields can be a tad skinny at times but the form usally stands up. I have no probs with prizemoney going into this series of races and for this age group.

It was a dominant win by Moreish in the Oaks yesterday. This filly will win the Derby easily as the boys are inferior IMO.
A maiden won the Melvista from a horse that just broke its maiden status. The boys are an even bunch.
On the subject of Moreish, isn't Sharon Miller flying at the moment.

I think she will win, but she has to back up yet again over 2400, The boys have got it over the other fillies without a doubt.

if the vic. filly stays for the derby she will shake the life out of it.

Maybe the form out of the below Pinjarra maiden illustrates the lack of depth from both the Oaks and Melvista. Good runs yesterday by the 1st and 3rd placegetters from that race.

I think Ye Olde at $17 is a great bet for the Derby.

Be interesting if Fishy gets off Rebelson to ride Ye Olde

I think Steacky is keen to stick

I'm happy with my $34 Mystic Prince. Miles in the legs, but at same time softer lead up.

Not suited by slow tempo in his race, but will be by Gold Broker running along over 2400. Big question marks on the majority of the field sticking the 24.

Moreish is the obvious pick, let's hope it goes for a spell [-O<

Boys have been running quicker, I know everyone thinks they r not a flash lot but as good as Moreish has been she is going to be giving em a big start be an interesting race

Having said that above, I dunno, Pants on Friar and Special Touch, yes they got beat a bit, but there's gotta be a ?? on the quality of that form . . . surely.

Extremely interesting there was a bunched finish in the Melvista given the tempo and last splits, would've expected to see em strung out a bit coming home in near 37. Either a bit of pack chasing going on, or there was no dinki di stayers in there to steam over the top of em . . .

Who knows,Desert Glow might get out in time for the derby? 8-X

I heard a whisper at the track on Sat that the stable were very keen on Danehill Express as Rebelson had been off colour for the week, not how it panned out. Best looking horse in the colts race was Another Holdup.
  • JordanJordan    1,827 posts
The other bloke didn't stay and Rebelson needs the miles in his legs which he has got now will be hard to hold out come Derby Day B-)

so everything was 100% with Rebelson on Sat?
I was very keen on Rebelson but when the trainer spruiks them up like he did on Radio more often than not the wheels fall off
  • JordanJordan    1,827 posts
He had an issue leading in to the Melvista but don't think that hindered him he's all good now but like I said needs the miles has only had 3 starts from a break a lot of these others have had 5 or 6 stick with him PB ;)
  • Piston_BrokePiston_Broke    2,047 posts
well he only had a few weeks off, not exactly a long break, I thought he raced a bit flat saturday, but in his defence J Whiting was caught wide and had to go fwd, not the style I think he is best suited too. Jordan if they are fit enough to run 1800 they don't need miles in their legs to get an extra 400, now he has run 2200 he certainly doesn't need miles to run an extra 200m. All horses are different but we saw what the Bart Cummings workload did to Danehill Express.
  • JordanJordan    1,827 posts
Yep I agree needs to be ridden a bit quiter and more midfield on pace not his go but think Macca wants him ridden closer we might come to a disagreement there. Every time he's be ridden on top of the speed he's not finished off as well

Was ridden like George Moore in the Melvista and still couldnt win might be wrong but cant see him running the mile and a half
