Congratulations on Petrol Power. I'm sure had it been disappointing you would have copped a huge bagging. It is only fair then that you get praised now because the horse won very well. Looks to me like he was worth the price tag =D>

    Walked the horse twice, retained Dr Kathy Klein to look at the x-rays (for what I believed was a client but turned into a time waster ) then later I met with Sam to go through the short list. This horse was one of several that I liked but when the previous Snitzel went through at 'overs' the immediate discussion was on what Lot 85 would now make. Those around the table grossly underestimated the marketplace, but I declared this colt would make in excess of $200,000.

    I was very keen on Lot 25 but when it got to my final bid of $160,000 on behalf of Sam Trimboli, and another bid came, I asked him to drop out and save his coins for the Snitzel.

    Now others can or will have a different view of what happened, but that is what did.

    I'm not surprised that Perth Racing edit such facts, but I am surprised that Jay Rooney from The West Australian, would change his story of the sale topper in February, to now this new version. I hope that in the future they can accurately report what has occurred.

    Yes I did. I was with Jim Taylor and Simon Miller in the mounting yard and said there it is, Jim said nice weanling, and walked in beside Alan as the horse came through the chute. Got talking and said here we go, started bidding against David Harrison, won it at $16000 I think, everyone was happy. Then bloody Grant Burns announces Lot 46 and my heart stopped.

    Lot 46 went for more money than wat Alan was prepared to go to, so who knows, he most likely wouldn't have ended up with either.

    Footnote: David Harrison will train Lot 45 for Alan, and I understand bought into the horse as well. But yes this was a complete *^# up on my behalf.

    I believe there was a similar story with Lot 66 (?) but thankfully I wasn't involved

    Maybe I am wrong, wouldn't be the 1st time, but I am led to believe Jimmy had this horse picked out and was the only yearling he wanted for Sam all along, Damien was informed this was the one later on.

    what does it matter? in actual fact, i picked it out of the catalogue before all of you. Does that make me the messiah?

    Congrats to all of them....returned a big whack of the purchase price at its first start and if ridden better, would have won more impressively.

    ridden better, it was 1 off the fence after 100 mtrs. How should it have been ridden ?

    I thought it was very well ridden -- guess we all see different things. ..The other trainers do make life easy for someone as professional as Jim Taylor though --Bonny 2 400 metres trials and ran outa condition, the fave been in one only 400 metre trial so quite naturally has no idea whats going on, geo also puts his in off only one 400 metre trial... can anyone remember the last horse to win on debut off one 400 metre trial??...then Stevie sits out in the swamp from barrier 6 and the rest run shinnie...

    Darlington Abbey and Karaka Diamond won on debut with only one 400m trial. Miss Solis and Absolute Cracker won on debut off 2 400m trials.

    Karaka diamond for sure --shoulda remembered that one Ngawyni...( darlington won in the bush in a legless straight dash and i was thinking more about town )...1 town winner in the last what 5 years that had only one 400 metre trial as its lead in..Well done to Gordon Spowart!!!

    its a myth that horses have to run over 1000 mtrs in a trial before they race, anyone that thinks that has NFI

    you wanted me to respond? to what, that you thougth it was a good ride?
    hunted out of the barriers, kept pressing on til he got the front, then went too early just after straigtening. the horse had no peace at all. in the very first 2yo race of the season, they ran 0.3 slower than barakey!
    if you think thats good.good luck to you.
    It was a good run by the horse thats for sure.
