PC, no it's not a misprint. I just think that out of all of the stayers listed in that poll, I think Guyno is the best. I am not sure why he hasn't got more votes. Anyways I will stick with Guyno.

Guyno has been a great horse but i couldn't make a case for him against some of the names there
  • Skywest_AirlinesSkywest_Airlines    59 posts
PC, I honestly think Guyno would have Rogan Josh's measure at 3200m. Guyno is a tough stayer and would beat Rogan Josh.

There are some good names on that list but Guyno is up there.

Skywest Airlines - as Vorgtraffic said, Guyno has been a great horse but I couldn't have him considering some of the names in that list.

You said that Guyno would beat Rogan Josh at 3200m. I was checking out Guyno's record at 3200m and it stands as: 2 starts for a 12th in the 2008 Melbourne Cup and a 8th in the 2011 Adelaide Cup.

Rogan Josh's record at 3200m stands at: 2 starts for a 2nd in the 1999 Perth Cup (beaten by a neck) and a 1st in the 1999 Melbourne Cup.

Your saying that Guyno would beat Rogan Josh: a Group 1 2-miler, and also a Group 1 WFA winner as well.

I honestly cant see Guyno doing this. He is simply not a 2-miler and thats not running Guyno down - I like the horse - I reckon he is a tough competitor and one of the few Perth Cup winners in recent times who has gone on and won races after thier Perth Cup win.

Guyno is more of a 2400m horse who's maximum distance is at 2600m.

    Cheers,
    PC.

PC, I can see where you are coming from and the stats support your theory. However I will stick with Guyno. I think Guyno is good enough to beat Rogan Josh or any other stayer at 3200m for that matter. I think he has the class to beat them.

Skwest Airlines - thats fine. No worries. Its your opinion and your entitled to it.

    Cheers,

What a big fkn love-in this is.
Clearly the best stayer is Guest Wing, he won our last Cup didn't he?
And his Trainer is an ornament to the code, and...oh, keyboard broke...
  • VorgtrafficVorgtraffic    1,755 posts
I agree with choc. Guyno will probably be a short priced fav in this years melb cup but i think the superstar guest wing might have his measure again.

Guyno? Love to own him but to suggest he could beat RJ...hell, you must be on some sort of waccy baccy...
Guest Wing....Mmmmm sore point......STILL no verdict in the Edwards case...friggin' joke!!

Meliador and Moss Kingdom were lengths better over a trip than most of those horses.
Still rate Meliador one of the most powerful stayers I've ever seen, thrashed the reigning Caulfield Cup & Melbourne Cup winners in Taksan and Arwon, now thats quality opposition and made them look second rate in the process.
  • Skywest_AirlinesSkywest_Airlines    59 posts
lets elope: So are you saying that Meliador would beat Rogan Josh at 3200m?

If so then my theory of Guyno beating Rogan Josh at 3200m is valid then.
  • PCPC    2,265 posts
I wasnt around when Moss Kingdom was running but I have seen his 1984 Adelaide Cup win on youtube - very impressive. In fact Moss Kingdom is the last WA horse to win the Adelaide Cup.

Moss Kingdom - 1984 Adelaide Cup:

    Meliador:

Looking at those link makes me believe that Guyno would beat Maliador and Moss Kingdom. I would be very confident actually. Again it proves my theory that Guyno is the best - he would beat Rogan Josh, Maliador and Moss Kingdom. Too easy.

Im big fan of Guyno so maybe im a tad biased? hehe.

Proves nothing. Your opinion. BTW its Meliador.
Guyno is a top performer for this era but in Meliador & Moss Kingdom's day the staying quality was much superior to now. Guyno would not have beaten those horses believe me. I saw them race, I take it you did not.

I saw Guyno unplaced in the worst Bunbury Cup ever 2010, Meliador would have won in a walk, trot & canter. Not knocking Guyno mind I'd love to own him.

Skywest_Airlines: how can you say that Guyno would beat Maliador, Moss Kingdom and Rogan Josh. Your saying that Guyno would beat three Group 1 3200m winners and yet Guyno's record at 3200m (as I have already pointed out to you) is not good and why??? Because he is simply not a 2-miler. Maliador, Moss Kingdom and Rogan Josh all thrived at 2-miles. Go and look at them in those 2-mile races - they loved it.

It's your opinion but surely your theory flawed. Maliador and Moss Kingdom won those Perth Cups and Adelaide Cups when they were Group 1s and also when those races had quality in them, and Rogan Josh is a Melbourne Cup winner as well as a Mackinnon winnner - and he ran overseas in the Hong Kong Vase for a 4th.

I just can't see how Guyno would win. I love Guyno - wish I had a share in him but as darrah said - he simply wouldn't be good enough to beat those three horses in a 2-mile race.

I understand if you really love Guyno but you gotta be realistic.

    Cheers,
    PC.

I think Skywest must own Guyno . . . I'd put him almost clear last on the list of horses discussed here

PC and darrah, no I am sorry, I disagree. Guyno is all class and has quality written all over him.

No I dont own him. I just love him.

Heroicity and the cool cat eddie for me,
    did wonders with that horse.

Do think crying game was quiet all right along with 1 Lou had that won a heap of races with Harvey aboard and think it was nommed for east races till it went sore or so. Black with maybe yellow sash or something.
Lawmaker actualy i think his name was ?

Lawmaker ended up at Esperance and won the 2002 Kalgoorlie Cups treble (deadheated in the Coolgardie Cup with Eastern Standard) for trainer the late Ruth Banner ridden by Jeff Noske. Had have been sound would have been anything.

I think Heroicity was pretty good stayer. Won two Dernies and also won the The BMW in 1992 and no WA horse has won it since, only Northerly getting close in 2003 when beating by a nose to Freemason.

Guyno was good - but not good enough.

    Cheers,
    PC.

Heroicity was a good stayer, I remember his BMW win - very good. But I think Guyno was better.

BXRacing, Herocity's best form was when Trevor Andrews had it, your thinking of the pussycat Belele

Think it's a insult to even have Guyno's name there, Aquanita and Muros form is a touch better than Guyno

Muros won a Perth Cup, got beat a year later when 2nd to Golden Centre, then got beat a lip in the Adelaide Cup and won the Brisbane Cup, all 2 mile races
  • Skywest_AirlinesSkywest_Airlines    59 posts
I don't think its an insult to have Guyno in the list.

As for Aquanita, well he was more of a miler-middle distance horse. He won the Cox Plate, CF Orr Stakes, two Emirates Stakes, Futurity Stakes, Doomben 10,000, Turnbull Stakes, Underwood Stakes and Railway Stakes.

    Aquanita was not a stayer.

    Muros was a good stayer.
  • PCPC    2,265 posts
It sounds like that every time we mention another stayer then Skywest_Airlines will say that Guyno is better then it.

    Ohhh dear......

    Cheers,
