Apprentice Jockeys Not Claiming Full Allowance

This has been mentioned elsewhere but feel more needs to be made of it. The punters are continuosly being led to believe that some apprentice jockeys are claiming their full allowance when in fact they are only claiming a part of it and in some cases none of it. Interestingly Richard Freedman had a rant about this on Racing Retro on the weekend. I think all publications must not only list the fields but also the minimum riding weights of apprentice joc's. At Ascot on Saturday Campbell Mc Callum is down to claim 2kgs on Ripstick. His minimum riding weight seems to be 53kgs which means he will be taking none of his claim. Duncan Miller and Ben Kennedy look like others who wont be claiming their full allowance on some rides. While I have no real problem if trainers and owners are happy for their apprentice jocs not to claim the full allowance, I do think it is in the best interests of all to publicly list how much a jockey will be claiming. How many punters think that they may have a 2kg turnaround on a previous meeting or be receiving weight off other runners in a race when in fact they are not? I think some states don't allow app jocs to ride if they aren't claiming their full allowance.

  • the racebook always lists the MRW of Jockeys who wont be claiming the full amount - its the best source if you are looking for this info

    example today at Bunbury

    MICHAEL GRANTHAM
    Race 5 INFORMED DECISION
    55.5kg (3.0 allow) MRW 53.5Kg

PS - I agree Formguides should not list the full claim if it is not being used

It is ok for us Della but most people would not know where to go to get this info, let alone know that a joc isn't claiming what is listed. And WA isn't the only state that does this. The whole racing industry would somehow need to fall into line, which is doubtful.
