Just got my copy of "Track to Track". See Evergreen Lodge is on the market. Anyone know where the stallions are being relocated too?

  • Was 8 Million, now expressions of interest. Has been on the market for sometime now. Trade Fair is at Alwyn Park. Not sure about the old boy.

Why would he be put down? He's only 19.

I think the owners are worried about what type of home he would end up in if sold.
And also he has been at the stud for a long time, it would place a massive amount of stress on the horse to move him.

Well that makes a lot of sense.
Kill him rather than him live somewhere that may not be quite as good as he is acustomed....

Anyone who has worked with stud stallions will know that once a stallion has been in one place a long time and made it "his" the stallion suffers enormously when sent elsewhere, I have seen a stallion go into a decline and die because of it. So it may be kinder to put him down, plus no body knows what other health/ fertility issues he may have. I wouldn't be too worried tho at the price Evergreen will a longtime selling. The setup is old and needs major reno work its only 135 acres so unless theres gold under the sand its way overpriced.

Zed doesn't get a huge amount of mares, no "reputable" stud would buy him as he is not a "sound" investment.

It is a sad reflection of the of these economic times when you see the older established studs giving it away , will it end up with the famous five running west australia s breeding , or will there be a few independants carry on , hope so , Oh and evergreen its worth what someone is prepared to pay for it.

It'll end up with the FF and eastern states 2nds...good enough for WA..hope most of us feel a little offended by that last comment but that looks like the way it is.How can we have a healthy market with it being so monopolised. It will be interesting as it was brought to my attention that their are no big family breeding dynasties here like in the East. The average age of the stud owners/masters is 50[in W.A] and with the exception of the Smith's and Van Heemst there isn't anyone taking over the reins of their folks.
