I saw your comment on the 90k for 10 horses today. I looked through the forward calendar that is on CRIS at the moment, there are no changes "planned" according to it in prizemoney for any of the major stake races. Yet a source at RWWA says they are planning for a reduction in all Saturday stakes ??? Makes you even more frustrated when you see a day like today where money is just going to waste on Open Races that have 5 starters i them.

These horses are effectively 2YO's, how often do you see two 2YO races on a Saturday?

Della, hit the nail on the head, both races should have been combined to one $50k Open 3YO race over 1200m

I will publish some numbers after todays meeting, makes for some interesting thinking.

I think Bad Funk Stripe needed the 1200m race, faded badly in the last 200m!

I rated it no hope in hell

I thought Scenic Bullet would win, but massive jump from 1600m to 2200m so put 7 horses in first leg... lovalover wasn't one of them :(

    Was more a case of not finishing off due to;
    a) possibly not handling the 7 day back-up, and
    b) due to the way the race was run, he was the one that had to put pressure on Black Nijinsky. If we didn't, we would have been running for 2nd if BN was given an unpressured run in front.
That said he was still only beaten 2 lengths, so we are not too disappointed.
Can't complain about 2 wins and $60k prizemoney from 1st prep.

Cheers Funkster, he certainly did the work in the race. Money in your first prep is good, 60k is beyond good! Well Done!

QUEEN’S GEM (S. Parnham) – Returned having bled from both nostrils during running. Trainer Mr T. Andrews was advised that the filly would now suffer the disabilities of ARR.53A.

ACTION PAK (T. Maor) – Tired from the 800m. Trainer Ms J. Erkelens was advised that Stewards were concerned with the gelding’s level of competitiveness and future poor performances may result in action being taken against it.

Apprentice A. Kennedy (CLASSY NUGGET) was reprimanded for careless riding under ARR.137(a) for allowing his mount to hold Jockey W. Pike (DANEBEELA) tight between the 850m and the 750m.

Race 5. Apprentice B. Kennedy $300 ARR.137A(5) for using the whip in four consecutive strides over the final stages.

    Belmont Wednesday, 5 August 2009 – Race 6. perthracing.com.au Handicap (1650m)
Stewards concluded the adjourned inquiry into Jockey P. Harvey’s riding of ETERNAL POWER over the concluding stages in the above race. Jockey P. Harvey was found guilty to a charge under ARR.137(b) for failing to ride his mount out to the end of the race and he was subsequently fined the sum of $400.

Apprentice receives first whip related fine! Think that 1 month grace period is dead and buried!

And ol' Action Pak, what next, give him 70kgs? Retirement is the only option if he can't get his rating down soon, he is just being weighted out of any chance in anything he competes in!

I stand to be corrected at end of the Month, but so far small fines and warnings will be nothing to what may be to come. A lot of time and video has been used on these rules and some jocks if they go amiss later on, will run into a brick wall in regard of these new rules. IMHO

If anyone wants to take note for their Black Books, Bad Funk Stripe has pulled up pretty jarred-up today, which no doubt explains why he didn't finish the race off as well as the previous start. Still only beaten 2 lengths!
So don't sack him just yet!
Having 2 starts in 8 days on Good 2 rated tracks took its toll. I assume due to the inclement weather forecast they elected not to water the track.
That will definitely be the last time I'll be backing-up a young horse on firm tracks.
No serious damage done though and we'll still be setting him for the Guineas.

P.S. Della I had one for you today at Kal (Melmott), but I couldn't see a Kal thread on here!
