what an absolute lairising fool.
I can understand coasting to the line, but why grab hold the last 20m..what is the point in that?

Keith Watson did that on one of Connells horses in the 80s & got 3 Months

should be nothing less than 6 months i reckon. what was the point of putting the handbrake on? its not conserving any energy for the horse with 20m to go. it was just a smart ass act (look at me and how easy i can win this without even trying).

Yeah i told that story - because i was their - and i can see it like now

But he came with a well timed run - and then basically dropped his hands to nothing

But that leads to another question - when was the last proper punter demonstration on course - because Watson copped it big time - they lined the fence and let him have it

I think punters today just cant be bothered -

Falc or Marko can you remember when Malcolm Johnston came to W.A. as a apprentice sat up on one 20 before the line he got a suspension when it got nailed on the line.--- think it was Darryl 's Reward or similar.?

no stg, if it was after 1974 i was in sydney. i can certainly remember him in sydney..never out of trouble.

if watson did it with connells blessing all good...but if he didn't, lucky not to meet with a warning accident.

I had a shot a few years ago......along with a few others...Security came over and escorted 2 blokes off course immediately and threatened the rest of us...I think the only thing that saved us was we were club members and had mounting yard passes on!!

At Bunbury a few years later, questioned the jockey of my horse in a load voice...maybe a swear word or two...and escorted out of the mounting yard.

totally protected from any responsibilities these days

Pretty hard to jump the fence if you are at home watching  =P~

Not sure of the validty of this, but have been told the Pikes had a few demonstrations after winning the last at Belmont way back, and one particular day Jeff Pike jumped the fence to have a quiet word with an irate punter.

Old story, George James was going home one night, security guards were removing a couple of noisy punters out for, I dunno, breathing too loudly, or something similar. Hardly any patrons on course and George quipped "Mate, you should be chucking  punters in rather than chucking them out".

Did punter demo's actually ever hurt anyone? There was a bottler against Detonator one day at Ascot, and the infamous Magic Flute Easter Cup demo at GP. Only damage done was to Fred Kersley and Dr Early, both got 6 months.

Fun police have got you covered these days. Easiest money in town....doing security down at Johnny Burts Fun Palace handling 30 lonely patrons, most of us can't raise a gallop and and can't remember what is was we were protesting about.

If 28 days is the maximum, they need to revise the rules. Worthy of 12 months at least.

i've heard of one protest at ascot where angry punters were trying to tear bricks up.
we've got to remember these were not drug or alcohol fueled..just plain anger.
