Haha too late to make that one lap ?

Anyway it's the Juicing Carrots, Like A Butterfly's, The Big Show horses of the world who should be complaining about the weights!

Top weighted horses in these handicaps have never got in so well, bottom weighted horses have never got in so badly. ( Compared to yesteryear )

We are talking horses here that are classes above the rest in quality.

A few sleeps ago and the minimum ones were on 46kg, then 48kg, up to 50kg, then 51kg and what is it now - 53kg ?

Whilst the toppies are still hovering around the same weight level they would have been allocated in the past. There probably carrying less in fact.

The weights given to Pounamu & Material Man in the last Cup made a lot of difference (not) they careered away from them. Classes above the rest + thrown in at the weights.

So that's why Galaxy Star is in some doubt...the weight she might be allocated ?

If they're thinking of taking her east there's absolutely nothing to be gained-apart from prize money-from making her carry the grandstand over a distance which she is untested.

good way to bust the horse and end her career... hopefully he's learnt his lesson from Delicacy

Delicacy was a proven stayer though and she was never a serious contender in the Railway. Galaxy Star seems too brilliant to win a grinding slugfest that these longer races often are.

Can always make the Perth Cup Weight For Age.

Just what we need in Australia another 6 horse weight for age race.
Like it or not...it's a handicap for a reason.

Think read a few years ago that the Caulfield Cup was going to become Weight For Age 8-| hopefully that's been shelved.

One of the greatest handicap races in the world.

At the end of the day it's the wrong time of year with the current programming.

It used to work, but a lot has changed. I think it should be 2 weeks after the WA derby. Would incorporate a lot of the country cups races, have the quality of an autumn carnival running around and add another dimension with WA derby and oaks runners considered. 2400m is fine.

It would be a truly great race then, as it once might have been

Is it fair to give a horse 59kg over a distance it's never raced? There are limitations of ratings and the difference between 1600m & 2000m, or 2000m  & 2400m should be considered. Delicacy(59kg) earned her impost: WA Oaks, WA Derby & Schweppes Oaks(SA) wins all over 2400m

And Bomber perhaps run the 3200 metre WA Cup on or around New Years Day ?
The tradition comes back of a 3200 metre handicap race at this time of year.

Most of the once a year racegoers on the day wouldn't notice the difference anyway, they'll still think it's the Perth Cup! Therefore still draw a decent crowd hopefully.

For me leave it as it is..but open to change!

*Correction-the Schweppes Oaks was only 2000m but still a Group 1. The SA Derby, also a Group 1, was 2400m and she beat Werther there-he went on the conquer HK.

Speaking of HK, Dark Dream, who beat Youngstar in the QLD Derby, just annihilated them in a class 2 and is on the HK Derby trail :)]

Wonder if their is anything left in Star Exhibit ? Has it been the Cup all along where he will bounce back ? If this field fell away much more, guess got to be some hope, and will still be double figures.

Never changed the mind so much on a horse!

The $11 and $12 ? each way that was available all last week on Gatting - a good ticket if you're holding.

im holding a fair few of those tickets riders, nothing huge but just small bets taking the price here and there. the price from the time the markets opened has been a joke and have made that clear on this topic. My brother got on for $17 (boosted) as late as last week.

If Galaxy doesn't run, then who'll start favourite ?
Probably the horse that should have been second favourite all the way along - Gatting.
Doesn't mean he'll win - but the double figure odds did seem a bit strange, especially on the back of excellent Railway and Kingston Town runs.

Corporate markets on the Cup now dissapearing faster than you can say Indiana Jones!

I still like Action; he needs racing to have him fit; he loves that distance.
My All In bets of MM ( Cox)  into Action and GS in PC should be cactus; but noticed the TAB refunded a $7 place MM online in the Cox even though I made it on Tuesday!
I have rescued my all-ups tickets in case they are still live.

WA racing is a complete farce if Galaxy Star doesnt get at least 59kgs it is a handicap for a reason if they dont like it stick to WFA racing the carnival is not put on for Peters.

Wow. At least gives everybody else a chance and opens the race right up.

No matter how much spin they put on it..what an ordinary field, but as somebody once said to me.."have you ever tried to win one". Good luck to them all.

Also see you at the course proper bomber!

Someone said Bob will have five runners and the overall quality of the race is maybe a Saturday field. Pity the race has come to this, it used to be a quality 3200M now it's just rubbish.
