The Other Belmont Review for 24/11/18
West Australian Racing
I like Jell's review of tomorrow better than mine (see Railway Stakes topic) but you gotta take a pride in your own work.
R/1 Here is a good field to start the day.
I have to go with the rejuvenated Luciano stable here; Like a Butterfly should be fitter and looks v classy to me.
Miracle Man is amazingly short and Jeraft who I thought would be fave is long. So LAB is my guess, esp in front.
R/2 There does not seem much speed here and that worries me about Pretentious Chant, Stageman and Candlelight Star.
I am hoping that Minus Looks (despite only a fair 2nd up record) can cross to be outside the leader and then pinch a break on them.
R/3 There a re a lot of questions about most of these in regard to consistency and whether they are 'OK'
The two that stand out are the 2 faves, Freo and In Love With Paris. I was surprised that Freeo was not the outright fave.
J Noske replaced by C Williams. So I will go with ILWP hopefully up in front all the way.
R/4 Here is my bit of a hunch for the day. Dance Music was good for me last time but she may be a handfull for B. Allan (he is of of course v good; but not W Pike).
We need something to race handy here and as I was v impressed with Fire and Rain's trial and past form, that is where i will go. The trainer and the jockey on top have never been better.
R/5 This 2100m is too tough for me C Newitt is on my Royal Star; WP on Mississippi. Elegant Blast is just itching to win one. Can Prize Catch stay the distance? Was Salon de Cheval stung by a bee last time?
R/6 They usually go so hard in this race that something comes from the back. It is too hard for me ; but I hope P and P does well with up and coming horse and trainer. I hope D Lane is on song tomorrow.
R/7 They usually go fast in the Guineas; I had hoped Lady C would do that last week and then pinch a break but it was not to be.
Blackwood River should be a good E/W bet here; similar to what the trainer did with Variation last year.
If only Platoon had drawn something reasonable at the barrier.
The Velvet King won like a champ last time so tou cannot leave him out despite the barrier. He just looked so much stronger than when he scrambled in at his last start prior to that before his spell; he has obviously come on.
The fave is the logical one of course but is v short..
R/8 A the market says i thought 2 main chances.
Amazingly Peaceful State is out to 5.5 and suddenly a go for Galaxy Star into 2.7 from 3.4
Hopefully Wrinkly sets the fast pace and we can see something strong come from behind.
Man Booker did win the Guineas a couple of years ago; from memory sitting 3 wide most of the way.
I have ruled out Gatting; may be sorry about that.
Of course MM has to be in with $1,3 in stakes and a consistent Listed and Group race winner trainer.
R/9 Two up and comers here with Moet the surprise one on top instead of Royal Statue.
RS bled 2 starts back so they must be keen to have some racedays winning now. He seemed to do a workman like job last time; seemed to be looking for further; but maybe if fitter now will keep in touch better with a clean getaway.
The Caseys have another Moet horse here and he will surely be up with the leaders; I guess that is why the price is so short.
Sebring Star has promised a lot and did beat Bold Success at Pinjarra one day in 1;10.1 for the 1200.. The trainer has done wonders with Freo.
There you are; it is another year. I will be barracking Galaxy Star!
But All the Best to those without the blinkers on.
