Being a non drinker ( at 14 ) haha that never bothered me.

Being a kid , the big crowd never bothered me.

However loving a bet and having to contend with ques of people that were 50 deep at all terminals, it was a nuisance! Getting on became near on impossible.

Especially as edging closer to the tote window had to stand on toes , ( somehow thought that made me look older ) only to be often told...sorry you're not 18. Didn't like those operators but they saved me money too! Will never ever forget the ques at the tote windows though. Bookmakers ring also shoulder to shoulder with people , then somebody to come flying through the pack to get set with the best odds. Sometimes would look for a trustworthy person ( on a racetrack haha ) to put my $1, $2, or $5 on. Five dollars was a decent old bet back then.

Dad he just got under a tree in the shade out the back near the old eastern states bookmakers ring. A transistor radio and he was fine.

Riders you need to catch up with Slip.....the pair of you have similar early experiences. Probably competed for the same set of stilts to make you look older!!!!

When you gave a stranger $1, $2, or $5 to put your bet on...had to make sure of one thing...you watched them like a hawk!!

The occasional runna was seen. Chances of restitution very slim. Bearing in mind whilst not huge amounts the $1, $2 and $5 were a bit like $10, $20 and $50 today.

Agree Rio give me a greats days racing with a comfortable crowd any day of the week.

Keep the good races spread out over a few weeks I reckon. Probably don't get many more people to the track that way but gives most people the chance to get to one of the big days if they want to. As for the people that don't make it to the track surely we'd rather have a feature race to bet on every week for a while rather than them all being jammed into 1 or 2 meets

I used to loved the Super Saturday concept all on one day with the KT two weeks later. These days it doesn't really matter to me as I don't get to the track anymore !

So what's the track bias going to be? Last week @ 6m all seemed pretty fair. The week before @3m the inside was quicksand. Rail true this week. Maybe it would be better to be drawn out a bit? One thing I'm sure of is that Tom won't be railing up in the inferior going this week....

Two roughies around $6.50 to $7 a place..thought both hit the line well in the Railway...got a hunch one of them can run into the money. #5. Pounamu and #7. All Our Roads. Just like the Railway again ( outside the class and doggedness of Black Heart Bart ) there an even bunch. The three year olds adding the new dimension.

Also a place at around $7 the roughest of the three year olds Money Maher...got a mile out of it in the Guineas. Will take around 6/4 ($2.50 ) that one of Pounamu, All Our Roads or Money Maher run a drum. Or if get two of them up then its really happy days. Three of them...am not that optimistic!

those 3 above have not a hope in hell..remember its WFA...how could Pounamu beat BHB on equal weights...the placegetters will be 1, 2, 4 & 8...

Barrier 1 unlikely to suit Bart unless they string out. I have everything crossed for Perfect Jewel. Bob breeds the right horses to pull this off and they are only getting better year after year as he continues to up the quality of his stock.

Maybe knock it back to two big days,Railway and Winterbottom on 1st day, followed by Kingston Town and Guineas on 2nd day.just a thought.

I’ve said from the start that 3 weekends in a row is a bad setup. Nobody, who doesn’t follow racing religiously, has 3 weekends spare in a row, people lead busy lives.

Do it all in one week, with the program that Glamour mentioned. Railway & Winterbottom on Wednesday. Followed by Kingston Town & Guineas on Saturday.
If that was the case this year the Kingston town would be going around with possibly  8 or nine runners. Taking away the 4 3yr olds which went around in the Guineas and a few that would not back up.

I reckon the 9kg is the only way any of this field can get past BHB

Willy Pike injured, suspended or just having a break from Bunbury? Yep I like a bit of Pounamu action.. fastest last 600 of the Railway.. should be top 4 I think.. likes the 1800m.
  • thefalconthefalcon    20,471 posts
But, buddy its WFA...makes a huge difference...the same thing could be said about great shot and he is a far superior horse to pounomu...but gs is untried at 1800m...personally I think its beyond him. pounomu is no more a WFA horse than waikata kid...or whatever its called.
WFA races are traditionally won by the best horse and the second and third best fill the placings.
all will be revealed on Saturday arvo...

Barrier 1 at the 1800m is a blessing in my opinion.
Bart is strong enough to muscle his way to the running line at any time he wants.
Class horses make their own luck in running.
Watch Bowditch and Viddora in the Winterbottom. Poetry in motion.
State Solicitor needed a Flemington or Sandown straight to get wound up. Ascot against top opposition not his go.

It's better to draw well than not at the 1800m. BHB may need a shade of luck from the inside but so did recent winners of this race, Moriarty and Stratum Star and they both got it. You'd imagine with two speed horses drawn wide(It's Somewhat, barrier 11 & Great Shot, barrier 13) that Bart may be slightly better than midfield. Weir can win this race back-to-back and the only tears Waller will shed are ones of sorrow.

Black Hart Bart winning on Saturday will take on new meaning with the untimely passing of one of his Owners overnight. RIP Craig Delacy. Condolences to his family and fellow Owners
