Futures Bets for the Masters

West Australian Racing
Just interested to hear from people who are thinking of/have taken any futures bets for any of the 3 Group Ones, seems to be a lot more bookies putting up the markets now with the nominations being done.

So far have just taken a little EW on Vega Magic in the Winterbottom at 15/4.5

Military Reign $34 the win and $9.75 the place. Thought i heard she was being aimed at the winterbottom as well so that gives you a little more confidence having a punt so far out. Will have 56.5kgs and be in the front half of the field (out of trouble) if she does make the final field.

Lite'n in my veins for the Kingston. I would wait until d day though as i think he'll be paying the same but you'll know for certain if they accept for the race.

    Sorry Railway not Kingston.

Would love to see Don't Doubt Mamma here. DDM and Azkadelia a couple of my favourite horses going round at the moment.

Disposition $9 or Kia Ora Koutou $51 for Kingston.

We must be reading the same playbook @bucks. I'd settled on Disposition for the KT as well just today and Liten in my veins for the railway after the win on the weekend.

What rating does LIMV cop after the weekend? Still gets in well I feel even at 100+ rating

Voodoo Lad(Winterbottom)...as much as $17 is available. If Black Heart Bart comes across for the KT, I'd reckon he would be fav. 2nd to Winx is good enough to beat anything in that field and his run in the Railway last year with 58kg was massive. Possibly the run of the race, when you take into account the way the track played and that he was asked to carry the same weight as a two-time winner of the race in Luckygray despite not having won over the distance.

wouldn't have BHB been up for a while.. has had runs from back in march and although he hasn't finished worse than second in any of those starts (including the runs before being kept fresh before his win in the Memsie) it'll be a big effort to travel here and take out the winterbottom

It's not on William Hill either. Is on Crown Bet($11), Sportsbet, Luxbet($17) though and Weir has said it's a potential target. You may need to call for a quote but, really if you have a Sportsbet or Luxbet a/c it's the best price by a fair bit :)]

The Cleaner contested the Cox Plate and then made the trip over. I guess we will know more after Saturday. Weir may keep him going-either to the Emirates(formally known as the Mackinnon) or Perth or he may spell him. Not sure Lucia Valentina would appreciate the likely hard track although she has a clear class edge. But, again she'll likely contest the Emirates also. He's Our Rockii may be the one that does make the trip over.

Cheers @therealkramer - knew the Mackinnon was being moved to Stakes day, but only just learned it was becoming the Emirates Stakes over 2000m

And the old Emirates Stakes (1600m) is becoming the Cantala Stakes over 1600m on Derby Day.  So Cantala is one of the original names of this race (from 1919-1961) before all the sponsors starting getting naming rights.  So a little bit of history returns.

    @LuckyLongshots

A bit of History Returns. But we also lose a bit in The Mackinnon Named that since 1937.

I Genuinely think this is wrong. Very much like Perth Racings Abysmal decision to Re name the Cox Stakes the Van Heemst Stakes.

Its a Disgrace what Perth Racing has done. I have absolutely no issues, in naming a race after Van Heemst,

What I can't cop is changing a time honoured race named after the massive contribution these people did in previous generations. It is an honour bestowed on you, by your generation. That should be honoured by future generations. Not Taken away by People that have no idea what these people contributed.

The Mackinnon Stakes was 78 years old

The CB Cox Stakes was 94 years old

the mackinnon aka the 'practice stakes' was on the first(derby) day?
    has it been moved?
and was not the mile race(george adams hcp) on the last day called the 'emirates'?

never mind i have just read following posts.

Yes would have preferred both races retained their original names @jum ala Mackinnon and Emirates and just changed days.

However we (the public) don't know what deal was made with Emirates to change the Stakes race they sponsored to sponsoring the new Emirates/Mackinnon Stakes.

Personally I have no problem with Emirates/Godolphin having a race named after them, they put a lot of funds into the Australian Racing Industry, so they certainly deserve (and are probably paying something for the honour)

as you say LLS, godolfin and emerites have put a lot into aust. racing.

now I ask, what did van heemst contribute to WA racing? sfa in my mind...did more harm than any good, his name should only appear on the roll of past chairmen...and in very small print.

@hash I think BHB would run in the Kingston Town, not the Winterbottom. But the fact he could have abandoned the CP campaign and switched back and targeted the sprint race race just shows you how good of a horse he is.
