General: Jockeys P. Hall (GREATWALL OF CHINA) and J Berry (INDAMANI) were questioned regarding an incident over the final stages. Jockey P. Hall explained that GREATWALL OF CHINA had raced wide from the 600m and approaching the 100m had commenced to lay outwards when under pressure with his mount shifting ground towards INDAMANI over the final stages. He further stated that he was unable to continue to use his whip when racing tightly with INDAMANI and he therefore rode his mount out vigorously in a hands and heels manner. Jockey P. Hall was cautioned and strongly advised that he must modify his action so as to prevent any extension of his elbow to ensure that no part of his arm makes any contact with another rider or further action may be taken against him.
I was at the track and had an uninterupted view of the incident. Now I must say that I backed Indamani, and even though it was a close photo finish, I was very confident that if I didn't get the photo, that I would have got up on protest. I didn't realise that horse racing was a contact sport, and I haven't seen so many elbows getting thrown since Gerard Neesham was playing for Swan Districts. P Hall can count himself very lucky in my eyes that he is not having a 6 month holiday.
