At the last meeting in Broome, Just James (a maiden) won the "main" race of the day, a 68+ race worth $12k. Going into the race as a 55 rated horse, his victory in essence cost him 15 ratings points. Given it was a 68+, I would have thought he should have got 3 points for the win, taking him to 71, not the 70 that he currently is.

As a result of this, the horse is now racing on Saturday again, but due to our handicapping system, or maybe the poor decision making of his trainer, he is giving weight to horses that have not only won more races than him, but also substantially more prizemoney than him.

Just James 70 rating 7-1-0-1 $9k
Beyond Repute 70 rating 61-7-6-4 $118k
Kooyong Road 69 rating 67-9-6-7 $121k
Marsellaise 66 rating 22-6-1-1 $63k

Now don't get me wrong, the horse goes good, in fact I had black booked him for the fure after his first 2 runs in Broome, I just didn't touch him last start because of the fact that if he won he would be doing himself a huge disservice.

Now I am completely certain that Jim Taylor would not have taken the same path with the horse.....especially seeing that there was 53+ 1600m race on the same day.
