  • Well, that is true, but self interest, and in some cases self preservation, has prevented many from nailing their colours to the wall. Some of the "reasonably high profile" participants are very reticent to bite the hand that feeds them....and everyon…
  • Answer to first question: Yes. The Queensland  harness code gets a very favourable deal courtesy of the gallops. Answer to 2nd Question: Yes, there has been many challenge(s) to the power of the the 300 odd members and the administrative committee f…
  • Ernie and Harvey Deegan put together a very nice tribute to Mr Webster on 6PR's "Remember When" Racing History programme last Sunday Night. Interviews with Craig Staples, replays of past great wins etc. I will try and attach the link: https://omny.f…

  • In 1972, Roscott and Lyle Lindau won the inaugural Mount Eden Mile. Roscott had failed in the WA Cup but made amends int New Year Handicap. "A week too late" was Lindau's comment but Roscott showed his superiority over his fast class rivals with an …
  • I get the "shop front" window argument with respect to the gallops and I can see how that would work. It is a different scenario at the trots. The big money races for the 2 year olds are "closed" races as are the big stake races on Westbred Night an…
  • No, don't do that. Same artist, different canvass....the entitled will make sure it is the entitled who benefit. Can't go making decisions that enable more jam on more bits of toast.
  • Further to that, the press release sent to participants as posted by Damien Wyer above.....well, there were (at least) two different press releases. The one above to Harness Participants, and another longer, far more detailed one to thoroughbredd par…
  • The "base stakes", as outlined above, have been cut to prop up "big stakes nights" at GP under the premise of promised improved turnover, exposure etc.. The impresssarios never, ever release any data/figures to support their unproven philosophy. Nev…
  • And for lower class city races ($27k mares to $21k, $25k to $21k and $23k to $21k) plus $9360k race reintroduced on a Friday Night Metro programme) and yet out comes Edwards with a load of gas lighting tosh about "maintaining base stakes and providi…
  • 1.54.7 for Formyeyesonly 2016 and1.54.5 for Scan Air 2009 from the Northam Racebook when they ran the Village Kid Sprint and the Northam Cup on the same night (February 1st, 2020). I had runners in each race and have kept the race book. HRA says 1.5…
  • Interesting stat, Gath only drove Shakamaker twice.....Group 1 Victoria Cup when Shakamaker won beating Safe And Sound (John Justice) and the Inters Final at Harold Park  when 2nd to Smooth Satin. John Justice drove him in every other start.
  • Formyeyesonly.
  • Might be seen as somewhat hypocritical when they did not pick it up themselves?  Look, I am very loathe to criticise a seemingly very undermanned stewards panel. Empty towers, and seeming only two operational stewards and one inside watching hawkeye…
  • Tells us that Ballarat is doing pretty well. In a city of nearly 3 million,  management down at John's Fun Palace would be delighted if 500 rolled up. They would have to order an extra bag of ice, maybe open a second tote machine in Steelo's.
  • Embarrasing.
  • Mile rates have now been corrected for Northam, good work, clearly an input error. First winner for Mark Roberts (M.R. Roberts) for about13 years when Cracka Tinny won.
  • They are saying 1.53.1 for Beach Captain and a track record at Northam for the VK Sprint ???? Nope, I seriously doubt that is the case.
  • Yep, the "original" Village Kid Sprint.......won by some really good horses (Has The Answers and I'm Victorious as I recall) before another "Village Kid Sprint" emerged as Big Brother sought to stomp an a brilliant initiative from a Country Club. I …
  • Ray Wisbey's colours Green, Red Diamond, Yellow Cap. Nailed it STG.
  • JAY JAY was on his way to Busselton....and what a beautiful evening it was, breeze dropped, balmy evening, great Cup Race. At the same time, friends made a return to GP after serious illness and lapsed membership from some years back. Long time harn…
  • 2 wins from only 5 starts  for Admiral Way, Cunderdin November 10 and Kellerberrin November 17, 1960. A 1956 foal by the imperious Stormyway out of Admiration, a good race mare for Freeman Holmes. 10 foals for 10 winners. Siring record for a closed/…
  • Wilvetta was a broodmare gem, foaled in 1954 by Howard Porter, by his Light Brigade stallion Gallantry out of Wilver Pronto. Great maternal family with her sister Society Lass being the grand dam of Ozvarin, it is maze of winners. Wilvetta was purch…
  • Max field size allowed is 8 horses. Stakemoney $5,937 per race. Running against GP on the same night which creates logistical problems for trainers, staff etc. Albany running all $9360 races the night following (Northam this week). Standing starts a…
  • Ivan did the same with many of Harry Beles horses....Each Way was on a very tight country mark before he got sent down to LJR and finally WJR. Royal Three had 3 full brothers......only one of them ever won a race and I think it was a trial.....at Mo…
  • Royal Three....which "fella"? Was it a yearling of Royal Three's or his yearling brother? Bit too cryptic for me? Pole driver? Anyway, yes, Magic Embrace, George Sortras, put on a hell of a showon the flight to Melbourne, sedated and all...and they …
  • Wrong person to ask... Sarah Suvaljko will be thrilled. Seems a big let up for 7 and 8, no penalty for winning last week?  What about Race 5 where a horse has been re-handicapped "forward" after the field was published? So, number 2 starts off the f…
  • Burglar Bob's DilemmaDecember 7th 1960 Cunderdin Hume Cup Every year Cunderdin would run their  75 pound "Hume Cup" (55 quid to the winner and a "20 Guinea" trophy) for 2.28 limited class horses. It was run in conjunction with the Harvest Free For A…
  • Yes, Sunshine Band was one of her horses but she was Alison "something else" back then, I cannot remember her former name. Colgate Gleeson drove it for her. Won a Cup in Perth....and plenty of others. Young Mister Charles time. I reckon she copped a…

  • Don't Rush Me never started until he was 11 or 12. That was one man that could not, and would not be rushed.....a marvelous unflappable  human was "Uncle" Max and "Auntie' Vera.
